The Hopeful 2024 Movie Review
The Hopeful is a Christian movie about the perseverance of faith and how some Christianity starts with hope, doubt, and even war. While watching the film I had a few thoughts that crossed my mind. The doubt and questioning of my religion are being questioned and tested by the outside world while tons of distractions are being thrown at it. It is much harder to live a simple life of focus than years ago.
The movie was based on a true story where a widower named John Andrews shares a story with his two children while on a boat. I found the movie educational to learn about the Seventh-day Adventist movement.
I thought this movie was a great film if you are a Christian school teacher and need a movie day to spark conversations about what it was like and how we stay strong and hopeful in our faith. It could be a great lesson about how we decipher between God’s word and our thoughts during prayers.
Buy tickets today to see The Hopeful in theaters ONLY on April 17 & 18th! You should invite your church if you are looking to hang out and need a movie that you feel comfortable taking the kids to see as well.
Now if you are looking for a cinematic experience with a large budget and more veteran actors this film probably isn’t the one for you. I generally prefer more modern-day movies that tell a story with fantasy and action with a large bucket of popcorn to escape reality. This Hopeful makes you enter reality about the history of deciphering the bible, spreading the word, and trying to understand the end of the world. Deep? Right?
I am grateful that I had the experience to watch the movie and since I still get to screen it up 10 times, I think I might encourage my daughters to watch it too. They have each spent most of their lives at a private Christian school. I just think they would both enjoy it more if they were watching it in class as an alternative lesson rather than listening to a lecture.

About the Movie:
William Miller’s faith is in ruins. After miraculously surviving a fierce battle in the War of 1812, Miller questions why God spared him. His search for wisdom leads to an astonishing prophecy — the world is going to end. The Hopeful unfolds as a story of a man burdened with the knowledge of Christ’s return. Miller’s message resonates with some—even as it is scorned by others. When a young woman named Ellen Harmon listens to one of his sermons she is transformed. And through her witness, the message begins to take flight. The preaching grows beyond prophecy and develops into a more holistic vision of how Christians should live and worship. We see blossoming the seeds of a new global movement of faith —the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The Hopeful is the true story of a community whose lives were transformed as they learn what it means to truly wait for Jesus. This sweeping drama, set in 19th-century New England, invites audiences of all ages to imagine how hope can change the world.
