Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Review by Myla Tosatto
WARNING- SPOILERS (I tried to keep it clean. I really did. It’s mostly clean.)
I’m just going to say it: Miles Morales is the best Spider-Man in the history of Spider-Man (no offense, Tom Holland and those who came before you). Not only is he bilingual; he’s an artist, he’s smart, he’s cool and he has the MOST AWESOME powers ever! The spider that bit him was apparently lit! Even his Spidey costume is the best one out there (once he sheds his dime store Spider-Man costume).
Am I saying that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is the best Spider-Man movie ever? Yes, yes I am. Not only is it exquisitely drawn, it has a wildly entertaining storyline. It has all that going for it, plus HEART! The viewer is completely drawn into Miles Morales’s (Shameik Moore) emotional and fun origin story.
You know the drill, Miles is bitten by a radioactive spider. This sets him off on his Spider- Man journey. What’s new and exciting is that the baddy of the movie, King Pin (Liev Schreiber) and his henchmen including Doc Ock (Kathryn Hahn), have opened up a portal to other dimensions. This floods our New York (probably our New York?) with six other Spider-Beings: Peter Parker (Jake Johnson), Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld), Peni Parker (Kimiko Glenn), Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage), and Peter Porker (John Mulaney). The assembled Spider squad and Aunt May (Lily Tomlin) join forces to take down King Pin. Sounds confusing? Though fast moving, it actually isn’t. Kids are going to easily follow along (and parents are going to be THOROUGHLY entertained).
Put this on your holiday MUST SEE list. You will not be disappointed. You are welcome.
Remember, it is a Marvel movie. You will want to stay until the end of the credits.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is now playing in theaters!
