The Scooby Gang has their most personal mystery adventure yet in Scoob!. Sure, they have to take care of some crazy guy in a mask at some point but Scooby and Shaggy are separated from Velma, Fred, and Daphne and need to thwart Dick Dastardly to reunite. While Velma (Gina Rodriguez), Fred (Zac Efron), and Daphne (Amanda Seyfried) have each other, Scooby (Frank Welker) and Shaggy (Will Forte) must rely on Blue Falcon (Mark Wahlberg), Dee Dee (Kiersey Clemons), and Dynomutt (Ken Jeong) to save the day. This isn’t easy with Dick Dastardly (Jason Isaacs) and his adorable mechanical minions threatening them. (Warner Bros. provided us with a free movie code for our honest review of this film. This movie is full of heart and nostalgia. On one hand, it will teach your kids about friendship and bravery and on the other it will make you nostalgic for the original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! cartoon and its other Hanna-Barbera fellow TV shows. If you don’t get jazzed to see Tracy Morgan playing Captain Caveman, I don’t think we can be friends. Look for other Easter Eggs scattered throughout the movie.
Needless to say, you are going to want to watch this movie. Your kids are REALLY going to want to watch this movie. Even your grumpy husband that hasn’t gotten off the sofa in three weeks is going to want to watch this movie. It’s as satisfying as a comically large sandwich with a tiny pickle on top.
And you with little ones- don’t worry. Scoob! is just the right amount of scary. It will give the kids some thrills but it probably won’t give them nightmares.
Apparently this is the first dip into the Hanna-Barbera expanded universe. Zoinks! If Scoobs! is any indication, Warner Bros. is off to a good start!
