It’s summer time, the sun is out, and if you are like me you are going stir crazy. I just recently took my family on a road trip to Kansas City, KS and attended a press trip!
Road Trip to Kansas City, KS
First off, we visited the National Agricultural Center & Hall of Fame. It is chartered by Congress to honor America’s farmers. It gives families from all around a chance to learn more about Kansas farming history. Inside we took a look at paintings and equipment that showcase the history of agriculture.
They have several small buildings that showcase agriculture in the past. You can take a look at a one room schoolhouse, chickens, as well as a train depot. There you can hop on the train and rest while you ride around and look at all the buildings in “Farm Town.”
If you are visiting Kansas, don’t forget about the yummy food and shopping. The best place in Kansas City, KS where you can do a little (or a lot) of shopping and get your grub on is Legends Outlet! They have several different stores and restaurants that is great for families. My family’s favorite place to eat at is T-Rex Cafe!
T-Rex Cafe is a place where you can surround yourselves with dinosaurs, food, fun, and all things prehistoric. Every so often the dinosaurs will come to life with lights, movement and sounds. It makes waiting for your meal very exciting! Once you are done with your meal you can pan for treasures, excavate fossils, and personalize your own dinosaur to take home at their Build-A-Dino. The food is amazing and big enough that I couldn’t even finish! After my belly was full, it was time to venture out in the shopping area in the restaurant, then shopping in Legends!
Legends offers a wide variety of stores. They have clothing, sports, baby items, household items, a movie theater, and restaurants. The best part about Legends is it is much more than just food and shopping, there are several different activities that are fun and educational, such as scavenger hunts, a free audio walking tour and their Saturday night summer concert series. We did one of the scavenger hunts, which was a great way to make walking around and looking at stores fun! Your kids will enjoy this! There scavenger hunts come in different difficulty levels. You can discover over 80 famous Kansans as you search for the answers during the scavenger hunt.
I personally could shop all day, but I don’t think my kids would appreciate that very much. 🙂 So after a while we decided it was time to move on to something that was more fast paced and fun for them! What better option is there than Schlitterbahn?!
Schlitterbahn is the home of the world’s tallest waterslide “Verruckt.” You have to climb 264 steps to the top and plunge down 168ft 7 inches at the speed of 65mph! I personally wasn’t brave enough, but will you be? I do know that many families love adventure, so this particular ride is for you!
The Verruckt although big is only a small part of the waterpark. It features an interconnected river system, water coaster, a surfing ride, kiddie area, heated pool with swim-up bar, and zip-lining. So you can have adventure, fun, or relaxation!
My kids LOVED (I mean loved!) their water slides. We were there over a week ago and my daughter is still talking about the Black Night water slide. It’s fast-paced and full of mystery because you had no clue where you are going! My husband and son enjoyed the lazy river. You can spend an hour just floating around the park and you will never have to leave your raft. My youngest and myself personally enjoyed the heated pool. I loved the fact that it had a pirate ship and other little activities where she could run around and I didn’t have to worry about deep water!
There was also a section that was just for adults and was around three feet. So it was nice to relax there and watch the little ones play! It was perfect for the whole family. After a few hours, everyone was wore out and ready to relax and watch a little baseball!
So we were off to watch Kansas City T-Bones. I have to admit I am not huge into sports, but even for the not-so-much sports fan, visiting the T-Bones was a blast! They offer several family-friendly activities, kids’ play area, promotions, games, and entertainment where everyone in the family will have a blast! The best part is it’s budget friendly where parking is free and most tickets are priced under $10.
Now, after a day of education, shopping, lunch, water play, and baseball I am personally wore out and think it’s time for bed!! Good Night!
