I am so excited to have interviewed Kevin Munroe, James Taylor, and Bella Thorne for the Ratchet & Clank Press Junket Interviews in LA. These interviews were set up as a press conference setting with about 30 online media outlets including yours truly. The interview started out with just Kevin and then after about 5 minutes Bella and James joined us! I was invited on an expense paid trip to LA to screen the film and interview these stars!
Ratchet & Clank Press Junket Interviews Kicked some Asteroid!
My favorite interviews are always with the directors of films because I find their creative mines and passion for their work so inspiring. They literally put blood, sweat and tears in all of their work. So starting the interview with Kevin Munroe had me geeking out a bit!
We asked Kevin what it was like to translate the video game into a movie. A summary of his response was, “I was working with a company called shining entertainment. I came to California and my first job was with video games. From there that project gave birth to a lot of products. So I new what people were going for.”
I am a total geek when it comes to a story line of a movie. I want everything to be a story whenever I write too. Kevin explains how the movie is, “…all about the story. Whether it is a movie or a video game, it is all about the story.” That is why story mode is so popular in video games. It enhances the player’s experience!
“The Ratchet fans have been really supportive,” explains Munroe during the interview. You never know how fans will react when their movies or games are recreated into new films. The critics could be really critical. It is the Ratchet fans that have been very positive throughout the experience. After all, Ratchet & Clank was a best selling video game for PlayStation back in the day! So the new movie and finally a new video game has spiked with excitement in social media!
As James Taylor and Bella Thorne entered the interview, our questions began to be geared toward their previous and current experiences. We even asked Bella about her future goals in the movie industry.
James had a blast doing his different voices and sharing with all us how he became so passionate in becoming a voice actor. He talked about doing one of his first commercials and then inviting David Messick to eat. He was so grateful for that time and the stuff he learned from David that it was really what helped motivate him for his career.
Also, James has a new book called Daily Inspirations. In his book it is 365 days of inspiration. His book is about although there were some terrible things that he went through in life how he helps stay positive, motivated and pleasant. Even Bella and Kevin jumped in to talk about how wonderful and positive James was to work with. He is definitely an amazing guy! James said, “I want other people to be able to achieve what I’ve achieved in my life, as a kid that sat there at four years old going, “I want to do voices.” And I pursued it with a passion.”
When it came to Bella Thorne, we learned about her passion in writing and creating movies. Her schedule is also so busy that we asked her about time management and balancing life. She responded with, “I guess you will have to ask my manager. I have a goal list and try to do everything. I make personal time for myself. So I am on set and I might have a buddy come by and spend time with me while I am on set. I want do everything but more importantly directing and writing.”
These amazing three people weren’t the only ones involved in making this film. There were a lot of creative masterminds that were behind it. I am blessed to have the opportunity to hang out with them and even was able to snap a quick group pictures with James A. Taylor during it. I missed out snapping a picture with the other two out of respect for their time, as they had to rush to more interviews. Just being in the same room and learning about their passion and talent was enough to make any geek like myself…geek out! ☺
Ratchet & Clank is in theaters everywhere this Thursday, April 28th! Purchase your tickets through Fandango.com today! Be sure to check it out and come back on Thursday to ready my review!
