If you are looking for a gift for dad you might want to consider the Philips Norelco Shaver 8800! When being asked if I wanted to review it, I immediately thought “Early Father’s Day Gift” for my husband. I did know that y husband never really uses an electric shaver so it was definitely going to be an honest review. It has some benefits that I would think a man would like but I am not a man (of course I am not). The number one benefit that I thought my husband would say is that he doesn’t have to worry about me stealing it like I steal all his razors. I also loved the fact it had a wet/dry setting so he could shave in the shower. So here is what Mr. Bargain Steve had to say:
I was very skeptical when Enza asked that I review the Norelco 8800 series razor. I love the idea of an electric razor but the execution has always fallen short of expectation. I have tried four “top of the line” razors before this one and always ended up using it twice and then going back to the blade. Electric razors never seem to get close enough to feel like I’ve done anything but trim and it feels like I have to shave daily to keep from having a thick 5 o’clock shadow.
I told Enza I would review the razor but if I don’t think it’s better than the blade I have to be honest. Honestly (sorry if I just got that Sara Bareilles song stuck in your head), honestly I’m not going back to the razor. The 8800 is twice as fast as my razor and I think it gets closer than the blade. I have actually had to shave less frequently. Not to mention when I miss a spot it’s a very quick fix. The razor actually hits the contours of the face very easily. The “tricky” spots aren’t as tough as I noticed them being with the other razors and even the blade.
So what didn’t I like? Really the only things I didn’t like was the razor burn I got the first time I used it. I was able to pick up a bottle of Letric Shave and it eliminated that on the second and third use. This is a razor that you can use wet so had I shaved in the shower the razor burn might not have occurred at all. And second the first shave had very thick stubble from about a week’s growth. The trimming razor wasn’t made to handle that. But this is being pretty nitpicky, as an everyday (or however frequent you shave) razor you’ll love this and it will save you a ton of time, and eliminate the use of those little toilet paper squares!
