Nerve Movie Review
I know, I know. I’m an “old”. I wasn’t supposed to like this, much less love this, but I did. I LOVED NERVE! Perhaps the Pokemon Go addiction wiped out the gray hair and +1.00 reading glasses, or maybe, just maybe, Emma Roberts and Dave Franco turned in great performances as young adults living in a world of instant gratification social media.
Vee (Emma Roberts) is a photographer, which literally makes her a watcher in this hyped-up viral environment she finds herself in. After a more adventurous friend (Emily Meade) eggs her on, she decides to be a player in the online phenomenon, Nerve. The game immediately hooks her up with Ian (Dave Franco). Together they have to do progressively harder challenges through New York. Some of them, like the motorcycle dare, will make you squirm. After most of their other competition “fails or bails,” Vee and Ian are left to face each other in the finals. This is one serious game of Truth or Dare (really just Dare) taken to its grave conclusion.
The book is based on the young adult thriller, Nerve by Jeanne Ryan. Keep that in mind when you are choosing who you want to see this movie with.

Industrious high school senior, Vee Delmonico [Emma Roberts], has had it with living life on the sidelines. When pressured by friends to join the popular online game Nerve, Vee decides to sign up for just one dare in what seems like harmless fun. But as she finds herself caught up in the thrill of the adrenaline-fueled competition partnered with a mysterious stranger [Dave Franco], the game begins to take a sinister turn with increasingly dangerous acts, leading her into a high stakes finale that will determine her entire future.
