Mr. Malcolm’s List Review
Review by Myla Tosatto
There are a few things you should know about Mr. Jeremy Malcolm (Sope Dirisu): First of all, he has a list (and it’s a humdinger) of what he wants in a wife.
Secondly, Mr. Malcolm has no title other than honorable, but he has a lovely country estate and plenty of money which makes him “the” bachelor of the social season.
Thirdly, though he is gruff and lacks a sense of humor he is found to be the most charming man in all of Britain. And finally, Mr. Malcolm may not possess all of the traits he himself has written on his list but finds no irony in this.
Enter Julia Thistlewaite (Zawe Ashton), death on the vine socialite (she’s been out for four seasons, can you imagine the horror?).
She is quickly thwarted by Mr. Malcolm for not knowing about some esoteric corn law and for blinking too often. She becomes the laughingstock of London.
Because Miss Thistlewaite IS charming and DOES have a sense of humor, she vows revenge on the untouchable Mr. Malcolm. Enter the sweet and lovely Selina Dalton (Freida Pinto) to do the bidding of Julia. Helping with their scheme is Julia’s cousin, Lord Cassidy (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), and Selina’s acquaintance Henry Ossory (Theo James).
What ensues is mayhem and meddling and ballroom dancing.
Will Mr. Malcolm find someone worthy of his rather high opinion of himself? Will Julia figure out what the corn laws are? Will anyone fall in love? Of course, they will! This is a fun, romantic movie!
This movie is made for those who are waiting for season three of Bridgerton or have read their dogeared Jane Austin novels one too many times. It will satisfy your 1800 romance needs.
Mr. Malcolm’s List is rated PG and perfectly safe for the kiddos to see.
