I have stayed pretty quiet about real personal situations. I have shared family stories and stuff that is really light hearted. But everyone has a true story, right? The last year and a half you have seen me come and go for a couple of days and live and deal with a lot of stress. My husband (who also helps with this website and does some of our product reviews and content writing) worked for our family business that shut down. It shut down because we weren’t making the numbers. After we were forced to shut down, we realized that it wasn’t that we weren’t making the numbers we were having money stolen from us–not some money…but a LOT of money. She had a 3 Million Dollar Fraud Scheme going on and we didn’t catch it. It was on the news, we had lots of phone calls, my husband dodged the news every time they would call for an interview. That isn’t his thing.
The money wasn’t OUR PERSONAL money. It belonged to the business…but the worse part of this situation was that it left about 20 people out of a job. This includes my husband. Also, the person responsible had kept it from her family. Today, this lady finally got her sentence – 5 years in prison. I am not sure how I feel about it…honestly I don’t feel anything about her sentence. I pray…I actually pray for her and her family because I want to believe that hidden under years of bad choices she has SOME good. I pray that my family can get the money they lost back.
For the last year and a half I have had to really practice what I preach! We have had to live off of earned gift cards, we have had to have our money stretch as long as we could, and we have had to depend on support from family and friends whenever we can take it.
Here is my husband’s reaction to the situation. It is a lot harder for him to open up. He gets real and virtual hugs from me! 🙂 Disclaimer…husband cusses…me on the other hand will yell stuff like “cotton headed ninni muffin” when I stub my toe really hard.
Also, I am filtering comments, so if you have something negative to say about how we didn’t catch the mistake earlier or anything on that…please don’t be ignorant. That is like blaming someone for having their house robbed because they didn’t have a good security system.
SO now….it is time for my family and I to move on from this all! 🙂 We hope that all of our employees have moved on, and we pray that her family is able to survive and deal with their hurt and loss while she is serving time.

So sorry to hear that this happened to you. I understand the strain on a family from loss of income. I cannot imagine a loss that great. I understand being dependent on gift cards to supplement that loss. Good luck in the future.
