About the previous Mission Impossible Movies:

Mission: Impossible (1996): Directed by Brian De Palma, this is the first film in the series. Ethan Hunt (played by Tom Cruise), a skilled secret agent, is framed for the murder of his team and must go rogue to uncover the real traitor.

Mission: Impossible 2 (2000): Directed by John Woo, this installment follows Ethan Hunt as he is assigned to retrieve a dangerous biological weapon known as “Chimera” from a rogue IMF agent.

Mission: Impossible III (2006): Directed by J.J. Abrams, this film sees Ethan Hunt coming out of retirement to rescue his former student who has been kidnapped by an arms dealer seeking powerful weapons.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011): Directed by Brad Bird, the fourth movie in the series involves the IMF team going rogue after they are falsely implicated in a bombing at the Kremlin, as they try to stop a nuclear extremist from starting a global war.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015): Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, this film follows Ethan Hunt as he battles against a secret organization called “The Syndicate,” which is determined to destroy the IMF.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018): Also directed by Christopher McQuarrie, this movie continues the story from the previous installment as Ethan Hunt and his team race against time to recover stolen plutonium and prevent a global catastrophe.

This movie is the 7th installment and Part 1.  Part 2 of this movie will be next year.
