As a teacher, mother, and student I loved getting new school supplies!  I wanted to create a free resource for all of you on where you can get free school supplies in Kansas City! Every year when I am planning my own classroom, I make sure that any supplies I am asking students to have or use that I supply it for them. I have been fortunate enough to have created a Class Set of all the essentials for my classroom.  

As a mother, I know that Back to School gets expensive. It feels like everything hits all at once.  The last thing I would want is for during those tough years of life, for my students to carry that burden on them once school starts.  This year I purchased all summer long when I would notice supplies they needed be on sale as doorbusters, but not everyone is a bargain blogger and on the lookout for deals.

As a student, every year I LOVED getting new supplies.  I would organize them and sort them and get them ready for the first day of school and get excited to start and see my friends again.

I love that all these organizations have come together to help kids make sure they are ready for the first day of school

Kansas City Free School Supplies for Back to School

Monday, August 7, 2023, from 5-6 pm

The Kansas City Missouri Police Department is offering free school supplies, sports physicals haircuts, pizza, and more!

Thursday, August 10, 2023, 4 pm to 6 pm

Mattie Rhodes is not only offering free supplies but they will also have a school uniform raffle, free immunizations, free physicals, and free eye exams!

You will want to RSVP by clicking here for the voucher for the free physical.  I would highly encourage you to try to get your kids to be involved. Students who get involved and find their people at school seem to be much better socially and emotionally.

Friday, August 11, 2023, 5 pm to 6 pm

Mattie Rhodes is at it again along with Guadalupe Centers and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce! Your kids can get free school supplies, haircuts, snacks, and more!

Saturday, August 12, 2023, 10 am – 1 pm

The Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council is having a Fair!  This Fair is only for the littles ages 4-14. You can expect to find a lot happening!  There will be free supplies, health screenings, games and activities, food trucks, music, and more!

There are quite a few community partners including Children’s Mercy, Community LINC, Boy Scouts of America, UMKC Dental School, KC Library Bookmobile, Lead to Read, Turn the Page KC, and PCs for People!

The Ridge KC Community Church is having an event that includes food and drinks, a bounce house, and games.  For this one you win tickets for school supplies.

Calvary Chapel COGIC KC is hosting a free event. will have school supplies, Care Kids Kits (donated by Oracle/Cerner Corporation), hair products, hygiene kits, children’s accessories, and lots of miscellaneous items. First come first served…until gone.

Gospel Lighthouse KC is having a free event! They will have Hotdogs, Soda Pop, SnoCones, 200 Drawstring Cinch Sacs full of school supplies  *School supplies for school-aged students ONLY (ages 5-17), Children MUST be present to receive school supplies. They are also giving away (4) $50.00 gift cards.

McRentals Event Services is having a Back to School Backpack Giveaway. You can enjoy free food, fun, music, games, free haircuts, and vendors.

Exceeds Expectations and the Kansas City Public Library is having their B2S Resource Fair! You can receive free backpacks, free school supplies, vendors, free food, and FUN!
