Is The Garfield Movie Appropriate for Kids? Movie Review
I haven’t felt like there have been many great family movies that have come out this year. I enjoyed The Garfield Movie. The movie exceeded my expectations with the nostalgia, great character development, and a cute story to kick off the summer movies and make my heart happy! I think the movie would be good for kids of all ages as long as they can stand the feedback I left below.
What is The Garfield Movie rated?
It is rated PG for parental guidance. There is some cartoon humor, character roughness, and a funny cut-out scene of two characters falling in love with the beginning of the song, “Let’s Get It On,” that only the grownups would catch the reference.
Is the movie available in 2D or 3D?
This is a 2D movie but I did take notice of quite a few bright flashes. I was concerned that I didn’t see a flash warning before the movie. If your little one is sensitive to bright flashing lights, you might want to take into account the dark and loud theater.
Is it too long for younger children?
This movie was a ZERO bathroom break movie for my daughter, but she is getting older and I noticed a few parents taking their little ones to the restroom. The movie is less than two hours and I didn’t feel like it was too long. I would say that both of the kids I had were exhausted on their way home from seeing the film. They were both ready for naps!
Does the movie have any controversial topics according to society?
I thought the scene of the Steer and Cow getting together with the song, “Let’s Get It On,” was funny but I wonder if other moms would consider this a scene that could have been left out. I wasn’t offended by it but I think if this scene was released 20 years ago it would upset several families.
My Opinion
I thought the movie was great! I was lucky to have seen it early but I would spend the money to take my family to the theater to see it. It was cute and funny, and the theme about family, adoption, and love was strong and had a good message!
