Is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Appropriate for Kids?
After attending an advance screening to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem I took only my oldest daughter. We both thought the movie was good, cute, funny, and very entertaining. I enjoyed this movie more than many other animated movies. Be sure to scroll down to my recap after I answer all your questions.
What is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Rated?
The movie is rated PG for parental guidance. There is some fighting, mean guys (who are also funny), and some words like “hell” and “damn”. Nothing worse than what our generation is used to watching when it comes to animated movies.
What are the main themes of the movie?
There are some very positive themes in the film. The main theme is about doing the right thing without expecting anything in return. This is a good way to talk about being humble with your kids.
There is another message about accepting others. It is very general and can be used in your household in any which way that makes sense. I thought the movie was going to be about racism based on the trailer, but it wasn’t. You could relate the themes to racism and just about anything in the world.
Is it too long for younger children?
I think if your kids already watch the TMNT TV show then this movie would be good for them. The colors were a bit darker than the other shows with very few bright colors. If your kids are used to bright Mickey Mouse Clubhouse colors it might feel dark to them but even the fight scenes were filled with laughter and comedy.
Before or after you take your kids to see it, make these easy TMNT colored bath paints and let them paint turtles in their bath!
Does the movie have any controversial or sensitive themes?
Like Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse you see some Trans and lbgtqia+ information on a bulletin in the background. There are no references made to it. As a parent, you can decide if you want to bring light to it to your kids if you deem it appropriate.
Is there an after-credit scene?
YES! If you are part of the TMNT fandom. Do…not…leave…early!

The art style of TMNT was great. Is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Appropriate for Kids? I’d say yes!
The scribble shadings, the animated lighting effects, and the overall theme and story are great. I think that your family will enjoy seeing the film because mine did!
