I had the opportunity to go to an early press screening of Tim Burton’s newest film, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice! The movie is a mix of weirdness, nostalgia, comedy, and jump scares! The true question was, “Is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Appropriate for Kids?” It is the perfect formula for the best spooky seasonal movie of the year, but read this before taking your family to see this flick.

Is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Appropriate for Kids?
If you are wondering if Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is worth the wait the answer is “YES”! There are lots of parallels to the style of the original and a new story to continue this series! I would highly recommend that you watch the original as a great refresher to the first before seeing this movie! The Cinematics and story are well done to match the updated CGI but keep the world-building the same as the original movie!
What is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Rated?
The movie is rated PG-13. It does drop some bad language including the F-word. There is also suggestive content during one of the scenes. It is also bloody and violent.
What age is appropriate for kids?
This is a parent’s decision. I would stick to age 10 and above for this one, but you know the content you let your kids watch. If you are very relaxed about what your kids watch, this movie is probably fine keeping in mind the rating I mentioned above.
There are some jump scares so if your kids don’t like that, keep them at home. I jumped pretty high!
Is it too long for younger children?
The movie was 1 hour and 44 minutes. I thought the movie was the right length of time. The smaller your children are then the more trips to the restroom they might have to do during this one.
Does the movie have any controversial or sensitive themes?
Yes. It is Beetlejuice. The demon, devil, ghosts, ghouls…all the Halloween stuff!
Is this a movie sequel?
Yes. It is a sequel following the 2nd and 3rd generations of the Deetz family! If you are wondering if you need to watch the first one, I would highly recommend you watch it and get a recap! Our family rented it on Amazon before the movie.
About the movie:
Beetlejuice is back! Oscar-nominated, singular creative visionary Tim Burton and Oscar nominee and star Michael Keaton reunite for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long-awaited sequel to Burton’s awardwinning Beetlejuice.
Keaton returns to his iconic role alongside Oscar nominee Winona Ryder (Stranger Things, Little Women) as Lydia Deetz and two-time Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara (Schitt$ Creek, The Nightmare Before Christmas) as Delia Deetz, with new cast members Justin Theroux (Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, The Leftovers), Monica Bellucci (Spectre, The Matrix films), Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon) in his feature film debut, with Emmy nominee Jenna Ortega (Wednesday, Scream VI) as Lydia’s daughter, Astrid, and Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (Poor Things, At Eternity’s Gate).
After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.
