I remember years ago getting goose bumps hearing about a little boy who had went to heaven while getting surgery. Nobody believed him until he told his parents that he met his sister that died in his mommy’s belly. I thought the story was amazing, it really sparked a lot of conversation. When being asked to review the Sony movie “Heaven is For Real” on DVD, I was interested because I thought that it was really inspirational. After watching the movie my husband and I got in a deep conversation then we continued by doing the Heaven is For Real Discussion Guide after watching the movie and chatting a bit.
Of course we believe in heaven. Do we believe the Burpo family really had this experience? We probably talked and discussed it for a couple of hours. I came to realize that whether it was true or not, the movie and the story was very good and has a really good meaning. It got my husband and I to have a deep conversation and allow our thoughts and beliefs to be stronger by having bible quotes on our side to read and remember.
Based on the #1 best-selling book of the same name, HEAVEN IS FOR REAL brings to the screen the true story of a small-town father who must find the courage and conviction to share his son’s extraordinary, life-changing experience with the world.
The film stars Academy Award® nominee and Emmy® award winning actor Greg Kinnear as Todd Burpo and co-stars Kelly Reilly as Sonja Burpo, the real-life couple whose son Colton (newcomer Connor Corum) claims to have visited Heaven during a near death experience. Colton recounts the details of his amazing journey with childlike innocence and speaks matter-of-factly about things that happened before his birth … things he couldn’t possibly know. Todd and his family are then challenged to examine the meaning from this remarkable event.
We both liked the movie and really wanted to see it! I think that you should make a family night and download this discussion guide. It is also great for small groups and bible studies.
If you purchase the DVD/Blu-ray at Walmart it comes with a special feature of the Burpo family that comes on the bonus disc. Watch the clip below:
