Disclosure: Sponsored Content but that is totally my baby who graduated from GerberChewU! We are fans of Gerber’s 3rd Foods® Lil Bits™!
I am not a professional baby teacher, but I am a mom! We all know those scary moments when we are trying to get our babies to try new foods and we start hearing those choking sounds. It is sometimes then followed with them gagging their selves and then you guessed it, they spit up…everywhere. Right when you thought they were being self-entertained with chewing and learning their fine motor skills to feed themselves. I am so happy to share that I have teamed up with GerberU and their new Lil’ Bits recipes for a review and to help promote their product and GIVEAWAY!
Teaching kids to develop their chewing talent can be a bit tough and sometimes a bit scary. Both of my girls didn’t get their first tooth until they were 14 months old! So we were practicing this technique for a while! Chewing is an essential milestone in a baby’s development; Lil’ Bits recipes offer a gradual texture progression which helps babies learn the skills they need to transition to table food.
1. Choosing the RIGHT food!
Gerber labels their food in numbers their 3rd Foods are their Lil’ Bits which are for kids who are already crawling and needing the texture to learn how to chew! The new textures and tastes of the Lil Bits help kids with the chewing techniques. As kids are crawling and starting to move food from side to side in their mouth, that is when they are ready to try Lil’ Bits! They are going to love the recipe that is perfectly sized soft bits of fruits or veggies! Gerber is the only baby food company in the country which uses a special cooking method that givesGerber’s 3rd Foods® Lil Bits™ recipes the right texture and perfectly sized soft bits to help babies master chewing.
2. Knowing When to Start!
My best friend and also another contributor here is loving to use Gerber foods! Her daughter already loves the baby food taste and is JUST starting to get in the crawl stage of her development! She is 7 months old and wanting to move around!
3. Try different foods WITH your baby!
When you eat, baby eats! Just like when you use to hear, when you sleep, baby sleeps. Well those little ones are learning everything. Have them watch you eat too. Have them watch you chew. Make chew motions and chomp your mouth as you bring the food to theirs!
4. Let your babies get messy!
Give them the spoon! Take their top off if you want! Know that a must take bath is next. Let them put their hands in it. Let them try to get the spoon to their mouth! They will drop 99% of it! The 1% that they get in their mouth, starts to teach them how to do it! If they don’t try, they might not get it!
5. Gradually Let them Graduate!
Gradually start with foods that are easier way for the to digest with different textures!

These are all great tips. It was a very slow process for us to get our son to really chew his food, but we let him move at his own pace and he got it eventually 🙂

My youngest loved the Lil Bites. It was great for that period of time when she didn’t want baby food (too big, in her opinion), but wasn’t quite ready for table food.

They definitely get messy while eating at first — but it’s so cute and fun! Congrats on graduating from Chew U 🙂

Babies are too cute when they are messy. I let them eat on their own. They learn easily that way.

Awe she is so adorable! My little one likes these also and she is 2. I put them in the squeezers and she eats them by herself.
