Holy Moly! Dresses can be expensive but they don’t need to be. Do you have a teen and need a free prom dress? There are several ways to score free prom dresses in Kansas City.

After all, prom is special but spending hundreds of dollars on a dress you only wear once doesn’t make sense. I rather spend hundreds of dollars on a pair of jeans I wear twice a week all year.

Saving money on a prom dress doesn’t take the quality of the special event down. It isn’t the dress your kid will remember but the experience.

Prom dresses can be so expensive. If you live in Kansas City, we wanted to create a list of all of the organizations where you can find a free prom dress.

I have been teaching high school for years. Many high school social workers have been known to have in-school shops to help students in need find a dress.

Many of the places, I listed below are accepting donations. You can gather all of your formal dresses and choose a place to deliver them to a student in need. You can do all of this while freeing up room in your closet.

Free Prom Dresses in Kansas City

This is an ongoing list. All of the dates and times are scheduled by the organizations themselves. We will continue to add places and update our list as needed.

Prom Boutique: This is located in Lee’s Summit. Annually held at Woods Chapel United Methodist Church in Lee’s Summit, the Prom Boutique offers a cost-free opportunity for students from the Kansas City area who wish to attend prom but lack the means to do so. You can find the different dates available. These are usually in early March. You can donate dresses and/or mark their dates to “shop”.

Cinderella’s Closet: Sponsored by the Junior League of St. Joseph and located just north of Kansas City in the St. Joe area. You can schedule an appointment to shop for a free prom dress. Their dates are March through mid-April. You can sign up for a spot here.

Prom Dress Giveaway at First Baptist Church of Grandview has a lot of event dates in March and April! Select from a variety of dresses, shoes, and jewelry—all available at no cost! All of their dates and information are posted on their Facebook post. After April 16th, then adults can get a dress if they need it!

Blessed Dress is located at Resurrection Brookside. They have a couple of March dates available. Enjoy the convenience of private fitting rooms, along with complimentary access to shoes, purses, and jewelry to complement your chosen dress. Everyone is welcome.
