I have learned that my love language is quality time and physical touch. Spending more time together is a goal that I had this year. We both tend to be swamped with work, our schedules, and our kids’ schedules.

Not all of the free date ideas are listed, only what we feel are the best ones to include!

If you live in the area, there are many FREE Kansas City Date Night Ideas! You don’t need to spend money to be able to go out in the town and enjoy quality time together. You don’t even need to leave the house, but sometimes getting away is just what your heart needs.

FREE Kansas City Date Night Ideas

What I learned as I was putting this list together is that some of these free date nights are seasonal. They are only available during different times of the year. So if you scroll down the list you will learn about seasonal date ideas too! That way you can bookmark our list!

Visit the Nelson Art Museum for free! Admission is free every day, for everyone!

The Money Museum! Also, free to visit and you can even request a tour!

The Kansas City Museum in the historic Northeast area. Learn about the history, hang out in the lounge, and play pool and games!

Go for a bike ride or scenic walk! Kansas City has some amazing paths and trails! Whether you go for a walk or a bike ride you can spend some great quality time!

First Fridays: On the first Friday of every month, visitors fill the Crossroads Arts District in Kansas City to enjoy what has become the City’s most dynamic and popular event. You can find art, booths, food trucks, and more.

The Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens: On Tuesday, various sources say it is free to visit, I see $2 listed on their site, but double check and/or look for your change in your laundry room.

Crown Center Dinner: This one is a bit tricky because you can only do this one once! Spin Pizza offers a FREE Mia Pizza and Salad when you sign up here! If you visit Crown Center for a date and order your free meal to go, you can enjoy your meal at the food court and then walk around to the various shops, fountains, and around the area. To keep this date free, you need to make sure that you are there for less than two hours or you will be charged for parking. 😉

Kansas City Farmers Market: On Saturdays, you can visit and walk around the local market! Depending on where you live you might be able to pinpoint some more markets around the city!

Free Classes at the Library: Although, many of you explore our family-friendly free lists of things to do, those classes and events at the local Kansas City libraries aren’t just for kids! Find some for adults and have fun!

Seasonal Dates:

The list below is for ideas that only happen during specific months or times of the year.

March: Visit Catholic Churches and go to their St. Joseph’s Day Spaghetti Dinner for just a donation! 

Winter: Visit the Plaza lighting, walk around, and then check out all of the different fountains! Try to get a selfie in front of everyone!

Various Dates: We have free movie screenings several times a month where you can go and see a movie before it comes out! To get notified of these screenings you should join our Kansas City Facebook group and turn on notifications.

Spring / Summer: Go Garage Sailing! Visit the list of the Kansas City Wide and Neighborhood Garage Sales, pack a coin purse, walk around, and check out other people’s stuff!

Restaurants

Restaurants are a tough one to find for free so you have to be creative to get the cost down! I decided to give you some tips that you can follow:

-We found that ordering from food delivery services with referrals and coupons is a great way to save money! Our family recently ordered 4 Cheeseburger Kids Meals from Red Robin and it was a lot of food and under $30! We can’t even get McDonalds that cheap. To turn this into a date night, you can always take your meal to the park for a picnic and a walk!

-Take advantage of our Free and Cheap food ideas. 

-Use coupons and gift cards like Restuarant.com!

-Go for a walk at Sam’s Club and eat all the free samples. Okay, this is a joke, but since I am on the topic, don’t forget about the Sam’s Club deal for cheap AMC popcorn and drinks for those movie dates! 

-Not a restaurant, but there are tons of Kansas City Coffee Flights which would make for a great affordable date!

FREE & Cheap Resources:

Pogo Pass: Although these are geared toward families if you have a POGO pass and use the code ENZA you will get a pretty BIG discount and you can attend free games, events, and more throughout the entire year! This includes Royals, Hockey, Basketball, and more! Even more museums!

Groupon: I love Groupon and if you go to their Kansas City Attractions deals, you can score deals on bowling, ax throwing, painting and clay events, and more!

VisitKC: They post free events depending on the weekend! Find out what events you can explore this weekend.
