Elvis Movie 2022 Review
Austin Butler plays the legendary singer in Baz Luhrmann’s newest movie: Elvis. Elvis may have left the building, but Austin Butler is a star and he is here to stay!
Elvis’s short life becomes a wild ride as Luhrmann takes on a fast-paced (though clocking in at 2 hours 39 minutes) adventure of Elvis’s 42 years.
The audience experiences his youth in Tupelo, Mississippi, his hip-swinging beginnings on the stage, his time in the military, his marriage and family life, his movie career, his cape costumed comeback, and ultimately his drug addiction and untimely death.
Luhrmann’s Elvis is spurred on by the legendary Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks). Hank’s Parker is portrayed as a down and dirty conman with a gambling addiction who just happens to make Elvis a household name.
The women in Elvis’s life are played by Olivia DeJonge (Priscilla) and Helen Thomson (his mother, Gladys). These women shaped his life and wanted the best for him even when it was painfully obvious that he was out of control.
Though Elvis’s life ended tragically, he undeniably made some great music. This is the part of the movie where Luhrmann shines. One might say that Elvis is Moulin Rouge! part 2. The glamor and the glitz that rained down in Luhrmann’s shiny 2001 musical appear in Elvis as well.
The music sequences are delightful and fun. The soundtrack is a must-have with Elvis and Butler sprinkled in with the likes of Kasey Musgraves, Jack White, Eminem, Doja Cat, and Diplo.
The movie is rated PG-13 most likely for showing Elvis’s use of drugs. Middle school kids and up will get a kick out of the production, costumes, and music.
If you liked Rocketman, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Great Gatsby (another fun Luhrmann flick), and the aforementioned Moulin Rouge!, this fun, musical biopic is for you!!
From Warner Brothers pictures comes visionary director baz Luhrmann’s highly anticipated big-screen spectacle, Elvis. Austin butler lights up the screen as the larger-than-life icon Elvis Presley, alongside tom hanks as his infamous manager, colonel tom parker.
Spanning three decades, Luhrmann’s drama takes audiences from Memphis to las vegas and all stops in between. The film’s soundtrack features classic Elvis hits as well as reinvented versions from some of today’s hottest artists, including Grammy winner Doja cat.
