- pins
- Pumpkin carving kit (including a carving knife and scoop)
- LED candle or light source (for illumination)
Choose a Pumpkin
Select a pumpkin that’s suitable for carving. Look for one with a smooth surface and a shape that matches your stencil design. Since this picture is going to be so iconic you might choose to use a fake pumpkin you can put out every year! Get this large foam carving pumpkin!
Prepare the Pumpkin:
Cut off the top of the pumpkin by carving a circular lid around the stem (if using a real pumpkin). Make sure to angle your cuts slightly inward so that the lid doesn’t fall inside the pumpkin. Clean out the seeds and stringy bits using a scoop or your hands or an old CD to scrape them out.
Attach the Stencil:
Use the pins to attach the paper stencil to the pumpkin. Smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles so that the stencil lies flat against the pumpkin’s surface.
Transfer the Design:
Poking Holes: Use a push pin or poking tool to trace along the lines of the stencil, creating small holes in the pumpkin’s skin following the design.
Use carbon paper under the stencil and trace it.
Outline the Donald Trump Stencil and cut out the black part of the stencil.
If you using Carbon paper you can purchase it here.
Light the Pumpkin:
Once you’ve finished carving, place an LED light in the pumpkin and place it outside.
