Have you seen Doctor Strange yet!!! It is number 1 in the box office! It was amazing and definitely Mind-Blowing! Be sure to check out my Doctor Strange review! I had the opportunity to interview Wong from the movie during an expense paid trip to LA for the Doctor Strange Press Junket!
Benedict Wong was so funny and so nice! I loved his character in the new Marvel’s Doctor Strange movie! During our interview we laughed we were touched by his kindness and impressed when he displayed his voice warm up technique he would try to do prior to filming to practice his pronunciation of words! He doesn’t laugh much in the movie, but we learned that he could be a real goofball in real life!
Wong’s character is actually called “Wong”! He is super humbled to be able to play a main character in a Marvel movie! His character is quite serious but has some of the funniest lines in the script! In real life he described himself as a “goof ball.”
Doctor Strange Benedict Wong Interview
What was your favorite moment behind the scenes?
Wong: “…Sort of childhood dreams to sort of being in kind of the Marvel Universe.”
Do you have any comments and if you were, did you feel a lot of pressure from such an iconic role?
“…And then there was a Wong Character. I was like what? I just actually literally, I was always so crestfallen that there were no Asian Superheroes, like where are the Super Asians. It’s like why I have to simply get this by birthright, you know like Ancestors will not let me live this down…”
Are you serious or a goofball in real life?
“Oh yeah, I’m a little bit of a goofball really, like a serious goofball…”
Did you have anything quirky about working on set? Do you have anything quirky you like to do on set, maybe just like always follow the camera guy or look at your cards, or anything funny that’s specific to you?
“I never actually went to Drama School and I’m always kind of sort of always doing sort of little funny voice warm up exercises. (Wong displayed his voice exercise to us.)
I’m practicing my enunciation and then the Director walked past and tapped me on the back going yes, do it like that. And I go what? I was going No No No, it was just, it was a vocal warm up and as, and then so you’ll see me doing it in a scene with Tim Robbins like Daffy Duck or something like that or Porky the Pig. But yeah, I’m normally — I’m normally doing that.”
In developing the Character of Wong for yourself, what sort of research did you do? Did you read a lot of the older Dr. Strange, some of the newer stuff, outside influences?
“I first picked up like the oath so I really, so I just kind of had a little look at that…I think Marvel, Kevin and the gang are doing a great job really to kind of promote that.”

He looks like he was having a good time. I’ve enjoyed a number of the Marvel action films, I’m hearing a lot of buzz about this one.
