Are you ready for Disney’s new animated movie, “Big Hero 6”?! Big Hero 6 is about a boy and his inflatable robot named Baymax. I attended a press day in L.A. this summer where I was able to meet Chris Williams, Don Hall, and Roy Conli. We also had the opportunity to meet the director Patrick Osborne of the movie’s short film, FEAST. The short, FEAST, was just amazing! It was cute, funny, and heart warming.
When it comes to the movie Big Hero 6, we were given tons of teasers and learned a lot of little facts. I wanted to share the trailer, my impressions on the movie, and who I met when I was in L.A.!Before I tell you about my adventures I want you to watch some of these clips:
Watch the official trailer…
My First Impressions:
I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect with Big Hero 6. I did know that after watching the original trailer & teaser that it looked funny and cute. I didn’t realize that it was based on a Marvel comic that just wasn’t as popular as your Guardians of the Galaxy and your Avengers. The movie takes place in a fictitious town that is a cross from San Francisco and Tokyo called San Fransokyo. Hiro is a prodigy child and the main character of the movie. Baymax is Hiro’s personal healthcare assistant. Anything that has to do with Hiro’s health, Baymax is there for him. When they come across a little bit of trouble they round up Hiro’s friends and create a team.
From what I watched in the movie, it looks really good! You understand the relationship bond between the characters right away, you get the action from the Marvel comics, and you are entertained by all of the funny parts! I can’t wait to watch the entire movie! This movie will be in theaters November 7th! I plan to take my family to go and see this movie for sure!
From the unfinished snippets that I was able to watch, Baymax, was my favorite. He was a big soft cuddly robot! The Disney crew researched soft robotics when creating him. He is caring, funning, and has a matter-of-fact personality! The movie becomes even more exciting when checking out the scenes and animation of their city (check out the pics toward the bottom of my post).
The Brains…
The movie pieces was presented to us (the group of 25 bloggers) by these three Disney professionals:
- Don Hall, a Disney Veteran, helmed 2011’s “Winnie the Pooh” and has earned screenplay and/or story credits on Disney features, including “Meet the Robinsons,” “Tarzan” and “The Princess and the Frog.”
- Chris Williams directed the 2008 feature “Bolt,” as well as the short “Glago’s Guest.” Williams was a key member of the “Mulan” story team, and was nominated for an Annie Award for outstanding individual achievement for writing in an animated feature presentation for his work on “The Emperor’s New Groove.”
- Producer Roy Conli counts among his credits Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 2010 hit “Tangled,” as well as “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” “Hercules,” “Tarzan” and “Treasure Planet.”
These three guys shared with us how the movie came about, the amazing research, and how the characters evolved! They were great to chat with, which was the inspiration of my post! Don’t think you are going to get away with watching this movie with only one emotion…your emotions will roller coaster through the scenes just like their adventure!
The Research
There was a lot of research for the film! Below would be a group of pictures on how Disney came up with some of the art work for the movie for San Fransokyo. The characters also took several different transformations. Baymax sent the crew to study, feel, and touch true soft robotics in creating him!
Feast:
This is Disney’s short that will be right before Big Hero 6. Patrick Osborne came up with the idea when he filmed little short clips of what he ate each day for a personal video. As he was doing this personal project he noticed that what he ate every day told a story. He incorporated a cute little dog, a man, and a little bit of LOVE to make this amazing short. I am going to probably be the first to call it…OSCAR WINNER! I loved this short so much! I have the poster I was given during press day hanging on my fridge waiting to be matted and framed!
