Being able to work on a short film for Disney and Pixar is very exciting. If you aren’t sure how the process works, I have learned a lot after learning about the Oscar winning short, FEAST and now working on Disney Pixar’s LAVA. What happens is a bunch of filmmakers come up with an idea for a short. Once they have a good idea they come across their “pitch” where they sit with others including, John Lassiter, until they get the go ahead that their short is approved. They then come with their team to make this happen and work on a complicated schedule with others as many of them are currently working on the current big movie project, Inside Out.
Jim pulled out his ukulele and played a song for us…

(These lyrics aren’t perfect. Just what I think he was saying.)
A long long time ago,
there was a volcano
living all alone in the middle of the sea.
He sat high above his bay
Watching all the couples play
And wishing that he had someone too.
And from his lava came
this song of hope that he sang out loud
every day for years and years.
I have a dream.
I hope it will come true.
You are here with me.
And I am here with you.
I wish that the earth, sea, and sky up above
would send me someone to lava.
Here is to singing all alone
and turning his lava into stone
until he was on the brink of exiting sun.
But little that he know
that living in the sea below
that another volcano
was listening to his song.
Everyday she heard his tune
her lava grew and grew
because she believed that song was for her.
Now she was so ready to meet him above the sea.
As he sang his song of hope for the last time.
I have a dream.
I hope it will come true.
You are here with me.
And I am here with you.
I wish that the earth, sea, and sky up above
would send me someone to lava.
Rising from the sea below
stood a lovely volcano
looking all around
but she could not see him.
He tried to sing to let her know
that she was not there alone
but with no lava of his his song was so gone.
He filled the sea with his tears
watched his dreams disappear
As she remembered what his song meant to her.
Female Voice:
I have a dream.
I hope it will come true.
You are here with me.
And I am here with you.
I wish that the earth, sea, and sky up above
would send me someone to lava.
Main Voice:
Oh they were so happy
to finally meet above the sea.
All together now their lava grew and grew.
No longer they are they all alone
with Aloha as their new home.
And when you go and visit them this is what they sing:
(TOGETHER)
I have a dream I hope it would come true.
That you will grow old with me, an I will grow old with you.
We thank the earth, sea, and sky we thank too.
I lava YOU! I lava YOU! I LAVA YOU!

Jim played this song for John at one point. He knew that in LAVA he wanted real Hawaiians to sing this song. Prior to see the short with Jim (James) Form Murphy in the room he did give us his own disclosure, “I am not responsible for any vacation costs you might occur.” After seeing the short, I understood why he needed to make this disclosure. The picture, the color, and the story are all beautiful! Be ready to see this one nominated for the Oscar next year!
Jim worked with Andrea Warren, Producer, in this film. Warren has worked with Pixar since 1998 when she started as a production assistant on “A Bug’s Life.” She worked on Monsters, Finding Nemo, Cars, Wall-E, and Brave!
Be sure to watch LAVA, which is featured prior to the movie, Inside Out.

“Inside Out” opens in theaters on June 19, 2015!!
Your family will LOVE this movie! I can’t wait to take my 5 year old to see this movie! It is a GREAT way to teach kids about feelings and what happens in their mind. Watch the trailer below:
From an adventurous balloon ride above the clouds to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Up”) has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In Disney•Pixar’s original movie “ Inside Out,” he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all—inside the mind.
Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.
If you have seen this movie you know that “I lava You” is really going to catch on quickly!

How about you all be quiet. Every comment on here was rude. So you all shut up or leave. If you don’t think you shouldn’t talk. And the way your talking right now sounds like you aren’t thinking. So think about that for a while. After you realize that what you did was wrong, apologize.
