Cold War Review
by Myla Tosatto
WOW! (Is that enough? Can I be done? Do you really need anything else?)
Cold War is stunning and beautiful and a great movie. It is getting a lot of praise (Cannes Best Director, Nominee of Canne’s Palme d’Or, etc.) and rightfully so. I feel I could gush about it for hours and not do it justice. Poland has submitted a beautiful work of art for the 2018 awards season. Be sure to check out the top Cold War Quotes too.
At the beginning of the film Wiktor (Tomasz Kot) notes that there is something about Zula. He is correct in his assessment. There most certainly is something radiant about her and the actress playing her, Joanna Kulig. The charisma coming from both leads is off the charts. I would watch them spend their whole lives together giving each other smoldering looks. The movie itself is clever and charming and beautifully shot. You will be wrapped up in metaphors and dancing along to Bill Haley and the Comet’s Rock Around the Clock. All of the music is electrifying and I found the use of a Polish folk song as a torch song especially poignant.
It seems hard to explain. It really isn’t. It’s a gorgeous black and white Polish love story that spans decades and countries just like the Cold War. Go see it. You’ll thank me.
