Chile Mining Disaster
I remember being glued to my TV for days 5 years around this time when 33 Miners were trapped 2,300 feet underground. I remember wondering how in the world they were going to get these miners out and prayed that they wouldn’t be stuck there forever and lose their lives.
Families, media, and people around the world rallied and prayed in hopes to get these Chilean miners out of this mine. (Check out the featurette “THE WORLD IS WATCHING below.) Cheers and celebrations went crazy on October 13, 2010 when each miner was starting to get lifted out of the mine! They had to create special capsule, named Fėnix, to pull each one out. They could only be lifted one at a time. So their was some crazy engineering that went behind how much weight the capsule can carry, how fast can it movie, will it work…etc. I couldn’t even imagine being down there and watching one by one as others left before me.
These miners were stuck there for 69 days! Their families were living without them for 69 days they had to live together in fear that more of the ground would suck them up for 69 days….I…can’t…imagine. How many stories are there, how many different perspectives, what was it like? What type of heroism was there and how deep did their hope, trust, and faith have to be in order to lift them out of the mine?
The 33 Movie
Warner Bros is releasing a movie on November 13, 2015 that tells these stories! I cam excited to screen this uplifting and inspiring story which illustrates hope, faith, and community! This movie stars Antonio Banderas, Rodrigo Santoro, Juliette Binoche, James Brolin, Gabriel Byrne and Lou Diamond Phillips.
Warner Bros sent me this amazing press kit that contained a journal, rations card, tape measure, and a copy of the Pulitzer Prize-winning author Hector Tobar’s book inspired bye the stories of these 33 miners.
