Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Review by Myla Tosatto
“To me, he was everything.”- Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o)
Chadwick Boseman is gone but Black Panther: Wakanda Forever raised him up and made him as much a part of the movie as the rest of the cast. T’Challa and therefore, Chadwick Boseman, is ever present and that is amazing. The audience is able to mourn the death of Boseman but also celebrate him and his spirit. Even after his funeral, he is always there. In every scene. Ryan Coogler did an outstanding job making Black Panther: Wakanda Forever a celebration of his life AND a celebration of the women who will continue his legacy.
And can we talk about that girl power? Princess Shuri (Letitia Wright) and Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett) are leading Wakanda and dealing with T’Challa’s death at the same time that foreign countries are trying to plunder their Vibranium. General Okoye (Danai Guira) is leading her powerful warriors and keeping her Princess and Queen safe. Newcomer Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) is in peril but fierce, which is great since she is being hunted by the new bad guys led by Namor (Tenoch Huerta). Fan favorite Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) is back and plays a very important role in current and future Wakanda. Winston Duke and Martin Freeman are also back as M’Baku and Everett Ross respectively.
Be prepared for nonstop action but also bring your tissues. You will laugh and cry between rooting Shuri and the Wakandans on. This movie is not to be missed because it ushers in some new important MCU characters (hello, Ironheart!) and has a jaw-dropping cameo that literally made the audience in my theater gasp (and yes, Movie Myla was one of the gaspers). Of course, stay through the credits. There is one end-credit scene that you don’t want to miss!
