Best Tips for Visiting Tanganyika Wildlife Park
Below find our best tips for visiting Tanganyika Wildlife Park. Do you have a tip that you follow and would like to share? Let us know below!
1. Buy the Souvenir Cup
Oftentimes it’s hot outside in Kansas; so you will be thirsty. The souvenir cup gives you free refills all day with the fountain drinks, iced coffee, smoothies, and slushies at Tanganyika. My family spent a day at the park and the cups were extremely useful. It is a small dent in the wallet that can prevent a larger one.
2. Use the Sunflower App
If you plan on visiting and you happen to live in Kansas the Sunflower App will benefit you tremendously! It allows you to go into the park with 5 experiences cost-free to you. Also, if you are visiting from another city there are tons of other experiences in Wichita on the app that are cost-free. If not, it is still worth every dollar!
As much as you know our family are huge Disney Fans, the animal aspect of this park is far better than Animal Kingdom or any other zoo we have attended because of the interaction and experiences with so many animals.
3. Best Time to Meet the Lemurs
From our own experience, the lemur line was the longest in the middle of the day. If you want to avoid this long line it’s best to arrive in the morning or arrive in the afternoon. Visiting the lemurs will be a staple of your day, and you won’t want to miss it!
When you enter the park you will see the giraffes right away rather than swinging to them first visit the lemurs by going left because that line tends to take longer because every group gets to the entire Lemur enclosure one by one.
4. Make a Pitstop by the Parrots
Birds are some of the most lovable and most diverse types of animals with more than 10,000 species alive today. Some birds can sit still and look pretty, others can squawk your ears off. Scooter, Tanganyika’s Umbrella Cockatoo, can do both. She’ll say stuff like “I love you!” and “Bye-Bye!!” as you pass by and it is an adorable sight to see.
Hang out with Scooter long enough and she will even laugh with you! If she sees you walking away she might say bye to you!
5. Pack a Lunch
It may be best to bring your own food to the park, especially if you have young ones who get hungry quickly. You are allowed to bring in food from home, just be sure not to feed it to the animals seeing as they have different diets than you and I.
If you choose to grab something to eat, the fries are delightful. Plus, if you are from the Midwest you can even grab some ranch to dip your fries.
6. Book an Experience
Experiences are opportunities to get closer to the animals than you could ever imagine! The most popular one by far is going for a swim with Tanganyika’s penguins. They all have their preferences, for example, one of them adores tattoos.
We went to two of the many experiences, we fed rhinos and got to see their small carnivores. All four rhinos went up wanting food from us, and we got to see a bat-eared fox do tricks!
Here is a list of the experiences, keep in mind some of the experiences are limited. Sunbathing with Ra the snake, Bongo Behind-the-Scenes, Penguin Meet & Greet, Pygmy Hippo Art Adventure, Swim with the Penguins, Porcupine Meet & Greet, Big Cat Feeding Adventure, Owl Monkey Meet & Greet, Red-Ruffed Lemur Meet & Greet, Otter Meet & Greet, Carnivore Meet & Greet, Otter Art Adventure, Giraffe Safari Adventure, Rhino Feeding Adventure, Sloth Behind the Scenes, and finally the Penguin Feeding Adventure! You can sign up for these experiences on their website.
7. Plan to Spend More Time in the Park
Our family’s day went by so fast while we were in the park. At a regular zoo, we are usually done after a couple of hours. We spent 6 hours at the zoo and between our unlimited feedings and experiences an entire day could easily fly by at the park.
Many families brought swimsuits for the Splash Park. We didn’t plan on spending time at the splash park but if you have younger kids it is a great way to cool off on a hot day. If it isn’t too cold then be sure to visit the adorable jungle-themed splash park!
8. Follow Tanganyika
Be sure to follow the park on social media. They are very active and share their animals all of the time!

Review
All in all, we had a phenomenal experience at Tanganyika Wildlife Park. It created a lot of unforgettable experiences for our family and we will be sure to go again. Our favorite interactions were feeding the lemurs because of how cute they were, but a close second was watching the bat-eared foxes do tricks. It is a fun and exciting park which holds up to the title of being one of the best.
If you aren’t from Kansas City and looking for a place to stay at Hampton Inn and Blast Off Bay in Goddard, Wichita may be the perfect place for you to stay.
