Agent Carter Red Hat – 1940 Stetson Hat On Set Visit!
It is not every day that you get invited by Disney / ABC to go to LA and interview and check out the sets to an amazing HIT show! Do I have any Agent Carter fans? If not be sure to tune in tonight to Episode 2 of Season 2!
When I was on set of Agent Carter last month, I not only got to try on the Iconic Agent Carter Red Hat but I learned a lot about it, the set, and the layout! We had so much fun! The fun included getting to actually wear the Agent Carter Red Hat, and hanging out in the wardrobe department, and even pretending to be in jail were all hands on memorable experiences that any Marvel fan, like myself, would totally geek out about. Be sure to check out the pictures throughout this story.
Have you noticed some of the set differences from season 1 to season 2? They are in a new city and the set is a bit different but similar.
Being on the set of Agent Carter during an LA press visit to celebrate the start of Season 2 was unbelievable! I had so much fun walking around, sitting at the iconic desk, going to jail, and more! It really was a surreal experience since I am such a big Marvel fan. One of the differences that I noticed with this set is that it is a little bit brighter and sunnier since they are now in LA for this season. Another difference is the back drop. You can see LA through the windows, yet you can still see the 40s costumes in sunny LA.
One of my favorite parts of visiting the set was being able to hang out in the wardrobe department!
Agent Carter Red Hat
I have always been fascinated with costuming, make up, and theatrical tech. I even took a couple of classes about this because of how much I enjoyed it!
The red hat is an original Stetson Aviatrix red hat that is bent and curved manually so it looks less manufactured. This ladies hat was originally manufactured in the 1940s and within the last year it went back into manufacturing and Agent Carter was able to score some new hats for their wardrobe department. This hat is made of wool and has a teardrop crease. The band on it is multicolored grosgrain and has a logo coin pin.
About the Costumes
Costume Designer Giovanna “Gigi” Ottobre-Melton
Los Angeles native and Emmy award winning costume designer Gigi developed her keen eye and sense of style at an early age. She attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, where she received her degree in design. The elaborate costumes featured in period films influenced her significantly, and inspired her to pursue a career in costume design.
Her work spans the entertainment industry; from feature films to television including series such as the upcoming ABC series “Marvel’s Agent Carter”, TNT’s “Mob City,” CBS’ “Numbers,” NBC’s “My Name Is Earl,” WB’s “Jack & Bobby,” CBS’ “The Handler,” and the NBC series “Providence,” for which she won an Emmy for costume design.
- Gigi works 12-14 hour days.
- She has to choose costumes and how many she will need and then choose fabrics.
- She uses vintage buttons that she has in hand and dyes lots of fabrics.
- Only uses fabrics available from that Era.
- Jarvis’s wife is a color girl and Agent Carter only wears reds and blues.
Agent Carter airs at 9pm EST on ABC on Tuesdays! Be sure to check out tonight’s episode!
