Is Moana 2 Appropriate for Kids?
What is the movie rated?
Moana 2 is rated PG. There are some scary and dramatic scenes in this movie where if your little ones are easily frightened or triggered by flashing lights you might want to stay home for this one. I was surprised there wasn’t a flashing light trigger warning before the movie started.
What are the main themes of the movie?
This movie explores several meaningful themes. One of the strongest is the theme of family, portrayed through the heartwarming bond between Moana and her little sister, Simae. Their relationship highlights the challenges of growing up and the responsibilities that come with it.
Another prominent theme emphasized with a powerful song, is the journey of getting lost to find your way. This message resonates with adults, reminding us that feeling lost is a natural part of life. It is sometimes necessary to lose our way to rediscover our path.
Is the movie too long for little kids?
The movie is only 1 hour and 40 minutes from the beginning to the end of the credits. It did NOT feel too long and it did not feel like it dragged. I felt the timing was great and none of us had to use the restroom until the end of the film. There was little movement of kids getting up and down in the theater which is a great sign (especially as a parent).
I think if your kid is used to seeing Disney films their age won’t matter. If they are 2 or 3, just hold them close during the bright lights and intense scenes. If they usually cry during Disney movies, keep them at home for this one.
Are there any explicit content or scenes that may not be suitable for my family?
There was not any explicit content that would upset anyone. As mentioned above the flashing lights and scary scenes might not be suitable for some kids. The content was beautifully written and I would argue that this movie was even better than the first.
Is the movie available in 2D or 3D?
We went to see it in IMAX and it was absolutely beautiful. The colors were so vibrant. I would highly encourage you to spend the extra money to see it in a high-quality theater.
The movie can also be found in 2D and 3D as well.
Does the movie have a post-credit scene?
YESSSSS! Do not leave until the credits are finished scrolling.
Movie Review
Moana 2 is a beautifully animated film, with vibrant colors, captivating songs, and seamless transitions between scenes. Your family will love seeing the new developments in each character, making you feel like you’re part of their journey across the sea.
The themes and character interactions are excellent. Keep an eye out for some fun Easter eggs scattered throughout the movie—and perhaps even a subtle nod to the upcoming Tiana ride at the very end, though that might be coincidental.
Our family adored the film’s blend of sweetness and humor, while I was in awe of the technical mastery in lighting, animation, and choreography.
We also appreciated how intentional the songs felt, with each character’s style shining through in their music.
