Do you love going around to all of the Kansas City St. Joseph’s Day Tables?

Going to visit all of the tables reminds me of growing up. My mom made bread and swan-shaped cream puffs to donate to the St. Joseph’s Day Table. This post contains affiliate links at no cost to you.

This year, St. Joseph’s Day will be celebrated on March 17th although it is actually March 19. With the exception of Holy Rosary, all the other churches are celebrating early.

It is the feast day of St. Joseph and with St. Patrick’s Day right before it makes more holy celebrations for the Lenten season.

About St. Joseph’s Day Table Traditions

My family is from Sicily, and years ago Sicily suffered from a drought, and their farm and food were harmed. People got together and prayed to San Giuseppe and the clouds opened up and their prayers were answered!

The tables have 3 tiers. This represents the Holy Trinity

Bread and Bread Crumbs: Generally the night before the feast day, Catholics go around and check out the gorgeous displays of St. Joseph’s Day Tables. Generally, it is tradition to get bread and fava beans. Here is the actual recipe for my mom’s homemade Italian bread! Bread crumbs are served on top of the pasta.  Sometimes you can find other Easter recipes like Italian Easter bread!

Fava Beans: They are blessed and these were the only things that survived in the drought. You keep them in your coin purse or cabinets so that your pantries stay filled.

During the table visitation, there is a special seat made for Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. People give donations to the church in honor of St. Joseph.

Pasta Milanese or 12 Fish to honor the 12 apostles: On the actual feast day, there is usually a traditional Pasta with Milanese served for dinner with a goodwill donation along with the opportunity to purchase more deserts and holy candles for donations.

Weeks before the feast day, parishioners get together and begin doing a lot of baking!
