I had an opportunity to attend an early screening of Prime Video’s A Million Miles Away with my family. This movie is about hard work and perseverance.  Is A Million Miles Away Appropriate for Kids? I wanted to answer that question with my movie review below.

Being able to screen the movie during National Hispanic Heritage Month and at a theater connected to Kansas City’s Science City was neat and fitting for the film. This post contains affiliate links.

The movie makes a symbolic connection with Monarchs and how they make their 2,000-mile journey every year. There is a connection to them and to our world’s migrants.

Throughout the entire movie, you can see the dream in his eyes of becoming an astronaut. As a teacher and mom the dream and vision are in every child, sometimes society and circumstances make that vision diminish. In this story, you see it the entire film.

The movie stars, Michael Pena, who you have probably seen in Ant-Man!

Is A Million Miles Away Appropriate for Kids? Movie Review

The movie does a good job and being a true family movie. There were not any inappropriate or sexual moments and there were not any cuss words that I could remember.

What is it rated?

The movie is rated PG for the themes and for language, but I really don’t recall any bad words. If there were I didn’t catch them.

How long is the movie?

The movie is two hours long. I thought it was a great movie but it did require at least one bathroom break for my kid. I enjoyed the movie, but I thought it could be slightly shorter. It would be a good movie to watch in a STEM classroom.

Is the movie based on a book?

It isn’t based on a book but on his life story of his journey. He now has a book called, “Reaching for the Stars: The Inspiring Story of a Migrant Farmworker Turned Astronaut” that you can purchase on Amazon. For about $12-$18. Check it out here.

What are the themes?

One of the themes of the dedication of Jose Hernandez was about figuring out what others had that he didn’t and who had made the program. What we learn is what did he have that they didn’t. His story was part of his journey and his success. You shouldn’t let anything stop you from following your dreams.

Another great theme is that it is good to hold on to your past because it is your history and what makes you who you are.
