The movie is based on a true story and stars Michael Pena as Jose Hernandez! I had to pleasure to interview Michael Pena for Ant-Man years ago and he is so energetic and passionate about his career.
I can’t wait to see him in a more diverse role that appears to be a bit more serious.
He plays the first migrant farmworker to travel to space and like I mentioned before, it is based on a true story.
Hernández’s parents were migrant farmworkers from Mexico, and he spent much of his early life working alongside his family in the fields. However, he was determined to pursue a career in science and engineering.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of the Pacific and a master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Hernández’s journey from a migrant farmworker to a NASA astronaut has made him an inspirational figure, particularly for those interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.
His story highlights the importance of perseverance, determination, and education in achieving one’s dreams.
About the Movie
Inspired by the real-life story of NASA flight engineer José Hernández, A Million Miles Away follows him and his devoted family of proud migrant farm workers on a decades-long journey, from a rural village in Michoacán, Mexico, to the fields of the San Joaquin Valley, to more than 200 miles above the Earth in the International Space Station. With the unwavering support of his hard-working parents, relatives and teachers, José’s unrelenting drive & determination culminates in the opportunity to achieve his seemingly impossible goal. Two-time Ariel Award-nominated writer and director Alejandra Márquez Abella has created a dazzling tribute to the loyalty and tenacity of the entire Hernández family, as well as anyone who dares to dream.
