Are you asking, “Is the Sound of Freedom Movie Appropriate for Families?” This movie has been out in theaters for a while now, but since we were never invited to an Advance Screening or given press releases about the film, we weren’t made aware until the buzz on social media. We hope to see it soon but until then here is a review we wanted to share. We asked reader and friend, Olivia Keating, to share her Sound of Freedom Review prior to thinking about taking your kids to the movie.

While The Sound of Freedom may cover difficult topics like human trafficking and child pornography, it is a surprisingly enjoyable action film to watch. The good guys plan heists, the bad guys get caught, and children get saved. There are clear heroes, villains, and innocent bystanders.

The movie is rated PG-13 and 13 is the exact age of appropriateness. No graphic fight or sex scenes are shown, merely implied to those mature enough to know where the scene would go next.

All people should see this to understand the evils that exist and the good people in the world who are actually out there fighting it. The movie provides hope and a path to how this tragic underworld can be ended if enough people make it a priority.

The Sound of Freedom is rated PG-13 because of the subject matter. I would take my 13-year-old to see this movie but this would depend on the teen and their maturity level.

What are the main themes of Sound of Freedom?

The Sound of Freedom is based on the true story of DHS agent Tim Ballard. Ballard has worked for over a decade hunting pedophiles when he realizes he is being called to rescue the children who are abused in the countless videos he has uncovered! This movie dives deep into a dark underground world that should not be a reality. There are very intense moments in this movie. I was often on the edge of my seat and crying.

Is it too long for younger children?

Sound of Freedom is 135 minutes. I have a weak bladder so I did have to take a potty break. However, I would not take children to this movie anyways.

Are there any explicit content or scenes that may not be suitable for my family?

This movie covers child sex trafficking and while this is a true story and very respectfully done it is not suitable for children.

Does the movie have any controversial or sensitive themes?

YES! Bringing awareness to human trafficking is important and should not be made political.

Some people feel that the plot of the film “embellishes conspiracies and inflates realities”. There are not any conspiracies in this movie. Also, what movie isn’t embellished for the big screen? It is still Hollywood, but this theme is definitely very sensitive.

Although the movie is being politicized by social media, we didn’t see politics but awareness in this film.

Who are the main actors in the movie?

Tim Ballard was directly involved in the movie’s development, and he hand-picked Jim Caviezel to play him on the big screen. Mira Sorvino portrays Katherine Ballard, Tim’s wife who was instrumental in Tim deciding to change his career to fight child sex trafficking. Bill Camp portrays Vampiro, Tim’s ally who helps him find Rocio and save countless other victims of child trafficking. Eduardo Verástegui plays Paul, the character who funds Ballard’s operation in the movie.
