Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is rated PG-13. If you are wondering why it is because there are some cuss words, there is a lot of violence, and smoking in the film. So it isn’t the best movie to see with young kids but definitely a good family film. If you want you can read our favorite Indiana Jones quotes from the movie!

Is it too long for younger children?

The movie is 2 hours and 22 minutes and it is long if you were going to take kids to it. So be sure to go potty during the previews and maybe skip ordering the HUGE soda with your popcorn.

Are there any explicit content or scenes that may not be suitable for my family?

As Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny starts, Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is hunting treasure and fighting Nazis. The two things we need our hero to do. CGI magic makes Indiana appear in his younger years during World War II. This is just a prologue to set up the backstory of the Archimedes Dial, the mythical (or is it?) device that can cause fissures in time that Indy and Dr. Basil Shaw (Toby Jones) are searching for.

From there, the story flash-forwards to August 13, 1969. Here we see Indy as a much more fragile, aged man. He’s lost his son, he’s lost his wife, and he is about to teach his last class. On this day, his goddaughter, Helena Shaw (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) comes back into his life needing his help to locate the Archimedes Dial.

Indiana Jones isn’t as spry as he was in the first four installments of the series. And that’s okay. He’s an old guy. He’s vulnerable emotionally and he doesn’t move as fast as he once did. He wears his susceptibility like a well-worn fedora. It suits him. This doesn’t mean he’s done having adventures, though. The story gets all timey wimey and there are a ton of chases, car and otherwise.

It is hard to imagine Indy being alive while the Beatles, David Bowie, and moon landings are happening, but it’s certainly an interesting concept that director James Mangold worked with.

Harrison Ford returns to the role of the legendary hero archaeologist for this highly anticipated final installment of the iconic franchise– a big, globe-trotting, rip-roaring cinematic adventure. Starring along with Ford are Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”), Antonio Banderas (“Pain and Glory”), Karen Allen (Raiders of the Lost Ark), John Rhys-Davies (Raiders of the Lost Ark), Shaunette Renée Wilson (“Black Panther”), Thomas Kretschmann (“Das Boot”), Toby Jones (“Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”), Boyd Holbrook (“Logan”), Olivier Richters (“Black Widow”), Ethann Isidore (“Mortel”), and Mads Mikkelsen (“Another Round”). Directed by James Mangold (“Ford v Ferrari,” “Logan”) and written by Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth and David Koepp and James Mangold, based on characters created by George Lucas and Philip Kaufman, the film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel, with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas serving as executive producers. John Williams, who has scored each Indy adventure since the original Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981, has once again composed the score.
