The Menu Movie Review
Sit down and strap that napkin around your neck. Get your knife and fork ready. Cleanse your palate. It’s time for killer apps and zerts, boys and girls! The Menu is out and you don’t want to miss it!
Chef Slowick (Ralph Fiennes) has THE HOTTEST restaurant. It’s impossible to get a reservation, it costs $1250 a person, and it’s on a secluded island that is only accessible by boat. Chef, his sous chefs, and the staff take food very seriously. VERY SERIOUSLY. They grow their own veggies, cure their own meats, and use only what is local and available to them. Chef is a godlike figure to those around him, and he runs his restaurant like a cult.
Tyler (Nicholas Hoult) is the consummate foodie. He loves the whole food experience, and he is happy to put Chef on an altar. His date, Margot (Anya Taylor-Joy), however, is not buying what either of these men are selling.
The other diners have their own reasons to be at Chef’s fancy restaurant. Richard (Reed Birney) and Anne (Juditih Light) have made it their date place, food critic Lillian (Janet McTeer) and her companion Ted (Paul Adlestein) are there to give their snobby opinions on the experience, a faded movie star (John Leguizamo) and his assistant (Aimee Carrero) are in attendance to hopefully score a TV deal with Chef, and three obnoxious money bros (Mark St. Cyr, Arturo Castro, and Rob Yang) are there just being obnoxious money bros. They are all there to experience The Menu. They are unaware that their deaths are literally on The Menu.
It is not a movie for the squeamish (eat your dinner before seeing it). Though the movie is very enjoyable, it is not everyone’s cup of bergamot tea. There’s a little horror, a bit of thrill, and a whole lot of dark comedy on The Menu.
ENJOY!
