My Best Friend’s Exorcism Quotes
Abby’s mom holds a box of Hamburger Helper…
Abby: “Her mother’s hamburgers don’t need any help!”
Gretchen spews all over Stoney…
Stoney: “This is a Lacoste!”
Lemon: “Is she PMS-ing all the time? Wait, do you know what that means?”
Abby: “I’m 16.”
Lemon: “I’ve seen your friend. This isn’t going to be your run-of-the-mill puke-and-rebuke.”
Abby: “She’s not going to go voluntarily.”
Lemon: “That’s why we aren’t going to give her a choice.”
Lemon: “Up top! You can do it. Alright, Gabby!” *high five*
Abby: “It’s Abby.”
Lemon: “Really?”
Lemon: “Hot damn – we got ourselves a demon! I gotta go protein-load.”
My Best Friend’s Exorcism
Based on the talented Grady Hendrix’s novel of the same name, My Best Friend’s Exorcism explores the well-trodden tropes of both eighties teens and paranormal horror, along with a healthy dose of comedy. Some say that Gretchen Lang (Amiah Miller) is just being a very rebellious teenager going through the horror of hormonal change and others say she is possessed. Her best friend, Abby Rivers (Elsie Fisher of 8th Grade) knows something is off but to figure out what’s really going on with her close friend, she must first navigate the perils of friendships.
Gretchen and Abby close as close, telling each other LYLAS (love you like a sister) each time they meet and separate. One night Gretchen, Abby, Margaret (Rachel Ogechi Kanu), Glee (Cathy Ang), and more than one unexpected guest decide to break a classic rule of horror movies: taking drugs in the dark, dark woods. The night is full of firsts, teenage surety and then, fearful uncertainty, as Abby and Gretchen go off on their own and have a difficult time deciding if they’ve had a bad trip or something more nefarious abounds.
After their experience, although poised to simply be the consequence of a rough case of puberty, Abby becomes more certain as to what happened that night. She will have to work double-time to figure out how to rid her best friend of her metaphorical…literal demons. As Gretchen becomes fully immersed in the throes of demonic possession, she will unleash hell on her friends with a fire in which each person will have to face demons of their own.
Never taking itself too seriously, while joyfully engaging with nostalgia and relying on the strength of female friendships, My Best Friend’s Exorcism entertains an audience of diverse movie tastes!
My Best Friend’s Exorcism arrives in theaters on September 30th. Check out the trailer below!
