When was last time you had a mommy meltdown? Do you feel like it’s happening just a little bit more because of 2020? Some mommy meltdowns could be more significant than others but I’m talking about the ones that make you want to pull out your hair. This post is a sponsored post by our friends at ABC, but all opinions and experiences are my own.
This week’s episode of American Housewife has an incident of a mommy meltdown that I feel like some of us can relate to. If I have to remind my children again that our house is not a restaurant, I am going to be right up there with Katie’s meltdown.
Here is a list of what you can do to help your mental health and self-care for next time you have a mommy meltdown
How to Control Mommy Meltdowns
Put yourself in Time Out. I know it sounds funny but taking a break, closing your door, and putting yourself in time-out is a way to stop and just breathe. This year has been tough for a lot of people and being able to get a hold of our thoughts before we over exaggerate is always helpful.
Go for a walk. Sometimes the thought of stopping and going for a walk might even stress me out. But a good workout should help lift your endorphins, it is like a physical time-out that can occupy your brain and you can also focus on breathing.
Pray or Meditate. If you are one who prays, think about taking some time to pray and give your worries to God. If you don’t pray, think about meditating to relax.
Treat Yourself. In the show, American Housewife, Katie’s favorite meal is Second Breakfast. My favorite meal is the one that doesn’t get my dinner plates dirty. Thanks to my friends at ABC, I was able to order some dinner tonight as their gift and didn’t have to worry about getting pans dirty. I enjoyed my meal while screening a very very relatable episode of American Housewife.
Watch some good TV. I have my own “mommy shows” that I like to binge watch and enjoy. Close the door and get some good quality forget-about-life show to watch and escape a bit of reality.
Pick up a hobby. For me, I feel the best when I have had some breaks to craft. You have probably seen my Cricut obsession.
About American Housewife
This American Housewife episode is called “Homeschool Sweet Homeschool.” In this episode, Katie’s (Katy Mixon) vlog, “Can Do Katie”, goes viral after she accidentally posts a video of herself having a mommy meltdown while attempting to homeschool Anna-Kat (Giselle Eisenberg) and Franklin (Evan O’Toole). It is funny and realistic at the same time (now since a few of us have had to experience home school or at least remote school).
I don’t want to give anything away, but I know most of you will be able to relate to Katie…especially after spending an evening watching every other MomTikTok or TeacherTikTok out there.
“Homeschool Sweet Homeschool,” airs WEDNESDAY, NOV. 25 (8:30-9:00 p.m. EST) on ABC!
