Skyscraper
Review by Myla Tosatto
Every summer needs a SUPER, BIG popcorn movie and 2018 is no exception. This year’s fluffy, crunchy, and salty treat is SKYSCRAPER starring Duane Johnson aka The Rock. Skyscraper violently pops onto screens this Friday. It’s loud and jam-packed full of action sequences written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber.
Johnson plays Will Sawyer, a former FBI agent and U.S. war veteran. He interviews to head security at Zhao Long Ji’s (Chin Han) skyscraper, the tallest building in the world. Along for the interview are his wife Sara (Neve Campbell) and his adorable twins, Georgia (McKenna Roberts) and Henry (Noah Cottrell). He immediately gets the job and it all goes up in flames at that very moment. Literally. It is up to Will to save his family, possibly Zhao, and perhaps the building itself. You can smell what the Rock is cooking. It’s burnt popcorn. Luckily, the CGI is just terrific in this movie. I was both impressed and freaked out by The Pearl (the skyscraper).
Skyscraper is for anyone who loved Die Hard, The Poseidon Adventure, or The Towering Inferno. It’s also for those with mad gaming skills where you need logic to help you solve puzzles. I would say it’s for anyone who likes The Rock, but everyone likes The Rock. Duh. Also, if you have affinity for duct tape, this movie is for you!!!
So take your heart meds, pack your inhaler and make sure your nails are clean (you can’t bite dirty nails, after all) and head to the Cineplex to see Skyscraper.
Skyscraper is NOW playing in theaters!
