The Disaster Artist

I must admit that I have never seen Tommy Wiseau’s The Room (what some people call the world’s worst movie) and I have never read the The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, the Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made by Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell. These facts did not take away one minute of my pleasure from James Franco’s The Disaster Artist. This movie is a captivating victory that will delight you from opening credits to the very last frame of film (and wait for the very last frame. Trust). We also wrote a list of our favorite Disaster Artist quotes.
James Franco plays the role of Tommy Wiseau, a secretive loner who longs for a friend and maybe also to be a star. He finds that friend in Greg Sestero played by Dave Franco. He becomes a star (in perhaps not the way that was intended, but whatever works, right?). Along the way, literally every comedy star in the past 10 years pops in for a cameo.
Don’t bring the kids. They won’t enjoy the concept and it isn’t appropriate. Go with a group that has given The Room its deserved cult status or bring a comedy lover. Just go. It is fantastic. I was lucky enough to view it in a theater full of The Room cultists. Their enjoyment added to mine.
Generally I like to challenge my readers to check out the source material from which the movie came from. I am giving you a pass on this one. I saw one scene of The Room and it pretty much did me in. I don’t know how people sit through the whole thing. Oh hi, Mark. 😉
