The Brandon Russell’s Flash Dash 2017 was a great success! The committee did an amazing job. Read the following story from “the hubby” and why this event holds an extra special place in our heart!
Another unscheduled story from Enza’s husband to discuss a race we were fortunate enough to cover today, Brandon Russell’s Flash Dash! A new 5K in North Kansas City to benefit the Brandon Russell Memorial FoundationBrandon Russell Memorial Foundation committed to enrich lives and help fulfill the full potential of humanity through compassion, fitness, and forging lasting bonds. This is a foundation that means the world to our family!
A day after moving into our dream house I received a phone call telling me that Brandon had collapsed after running a half marathon. For those of you who are frequent readers you know Enza and I have been together since we were 16, we’ve both known Brandon longer. He was tenacious, energetic and funny but the thing he’ll likely be remembered for best is his smile. It was constant and persistent and contagious. I’d say I know he was looking down smiling today but that would be redundant, because wherever he is we all know he’s smiling!
654 people lined up and ran the race today, winners went home with etched glasses, trophies and all sorts of other goodies! But as much as today was about a race, and it was, it was more about the first step of the Brandon Russell Memorial Foundation which will help people around the world.
So a race that was planned in 33 days by an incredible group of Brandon’s friends and family included face painting, balloon animals, the Kansas City Chief’s K.C. Wolf, WHB 810’s Steven St. John, Chris Cakes pancakes, DJ Carl Guestello and hundred’s of friends and family. Permits and parking lots and a race chart were all planned in 33 days!
So what started about a month and a half ago as a race to honor a friend with an annual race has turned into a foundation and a legacy of a wonderful man! You can still contribute to this phenomenal cause at the Go Fund Me!
