Trolls Movie Review – A Review from a MOM

At the heart of Trolls, lies a musical. A musical about scrapbooking. Mostly. These are two of my favorite things so you know they had me right from the get-go. If you have seen the movie, you know that there are also some awesome Trolls movie quotes! I figure if I can’t go to New York to see Hamilton, I will gladly watch toys from my childhood sing and dance and entertain me for 2 hours. Take that, Lin-Manuel Miranda. Also, Mr. Miranda, you might want to give the lead of your next show to Anna Kendrick. She is absolutely fabulous as Princess Poppy, leader of the Trolls.

Trolls are hunted by the Bergen for celebration food. After 20 years of being free of pursuit, Poppy and pals throw a wild party and turn it up to 11. This, of course, clues the Bergens into where our heroes are hiding and the Bergens capture many of Poppy’s friends. Branch (Justin Timberlake) accompanies Princess Poppy as she saves her buddies: Creek (Russell Brand), Biggie (James Corden), Guy Diamond (Kunal Nayyar), Satin and Chenille (Icona Pop), DJ Suki (Gwen Stefani) and Cooper (Ron Funches) from the Bergens. With the help of a Bergen scullery maid (Zooey Deschanel) , she realizes that Bergens and Trolls are not that different and together they join forces to save the day!

My husband I argued over what the moral of the story is in Trolls. He thinks that the moral is that it doesn’t matter what we do or what we eat, it’s what is inside of us that makes us happy. I think the moral is that if you play your music too loud, you will get in trouble. Sure, his may be a much deeper thought, I just don’t like loud children. Tell me in the comments who you think is right. Also, I’m mad at him because he wouldn’t take me to Target to buy all of the Troll merchandise. Well, he took me to Target but we got laundry detergent so that’s no fun.

You will have a great time with the kids in your life if you take them to see this movie. It will make you nostalgic for Troll dolls, beaded curtains, LOVE pillows, and rainbow patches. I bet you will run right home and scrapbook the experience. I did!
