My Marvel’s Doctor Strange Benedict Cumberbatch Interview answered many of the amazing questions that I have wondered for so long?
Is Benedict Cumberbatch as charming in real life as he is on screen? YES.
Is Benedict Cumberbatch as funny in real life and I would expect? YES.
Is Benedict Cumberbatch do an awesome job as Doctor Strange? YES.
Yes, yes, yes! I love Benedict Cumberbatch, so when I was invited on an opportunity to interview him for Marvel’s Doctor Strange, I was so excited! He is one of my favorite actors and I LOVE Marvel. Now we get to learn on November 4th who is Doctor Strange!
I have been to many press junkets with lots of group photos and this is the first time I landed a seat right next to the talent…and it was DOCTOR STRANGE! I am so excited to talk to all of you about how amazing his performance and the writing was in the movie, but you are going to have to wait for my full review next week!
Marvel’s Doctor Strange Benedict Cumberbatch Interview
Question: Has Benedict Cumberbatch seen the movie? (He probably has now since the Red Carpet premiere has happened, but last week he hadn’t.)
Benedict: No. Don’t tell anyone. I’m very excited, obviously, but I thought I’d save it until all the bells and whistles were on — Until it was in the IMAX and- and the 3D as well. So…and you’re still standing. You don’t have sea legs.
Question: How was it working on a set that you didn’t have everything on?
Benedict: It is the same game of acting. You just turn it up to 11.
Question: Speaking of your cloak, what was it like and how long did it take to get into costume, out of costume? And what did you feel the first time you saw yourself with everything?
Benedict: Oh, well I felt like a kid. I mean it was just amazing. It was the first proper moment when I thought, oh my God, I’m actually playing a superhero. There’s nothing like it and, uh, it was very giddy….I just remember….I just remember smiling like this.
Question:Can you tell us about the audition process and what your reaction was when you got the role?
Benedict: This started with a conversation in this town with an LA Times journalist, I think, and he sat on the roof of Bad Robot when we were doing Star Trek press. You’d make a great Doctor Strange. I went Doctor who? And he went, no, that as well…
I was intrigued. And I read it a bit and I thought ‘okay’, I can sort of see why he meant that. But this is very much a comic of its time. It’s about cultism and east meets west mysticism, you know, in the ‘60s…
Kevin and Steve called and I went into, for Marvel and we had a proper grown up discussion about it. And I was like, oh, okay, this could be really interesting. And my slow brain woke- woke up to the fact that in the 21st Century you can make magic look pretty cool on- on the big screen.
Question: We saw at the end of the movie that Doctor Strange went back. So what is the wildest thing you’d love to see your character do in future films?
Benedict: Oh God, the- the sky’s the limit. I mean this guy defends, you know, the- our reality against other dimensions. So it’s pretty hard to stop at one- one thing. And obviously I know it might be a bit of a leering question is to see who I’d like to work with in the Avengers movie. 🙂
