As a blogger and a teacher, I find myself behind a desk a lot; more with the blog job than the teaching job. As a computer teacher, there are hours of my week when I am behind the computer grading and learning new programs. The lack of activity there and then working from my computer at home each week is affecting the calories that I could be losing.
I have lost about 9 lbs and my secret is to eat better and move more!
There are a lot of ways you can stay fit with a desk job but why not work on it while you are at your desk?
Here are 4 ways to stay fit behind a desk!
Move often: Set a reminder to get up at least once every 30 minutes. Reasons to get out of your desk:
- This could mean purchasing a headset and walking around during phone calls.
- Need to talk to a co-worker? Don’t call them and walk over to their office.
- Don’t eat at your desk, go for a two-minute walk and eat at a new location. Then take a couple of minutes to talk back.
Get rid of the candy and replace it with healthy snacks: I am a stress eater! I figured this out this summer when I went straight for food every time I was a little stressed. Donuts, chocolate, candy, and chips are my comfort foods. Instead, get rid of the candy dish and fill your desk with sugar-free gum, carrots, frozen grapes, almonds, or another healthy snack idea. Try eating a light lunch and a couple of small snacks throughout the day.
Increase your water! I LOVE my Diet Dr. Pepper, but if I am trying to take care of myself…water is the way to go! I am not a doctor but my doctor advised me to drink less caffeine to keep me in a better mood. I thought I needed more to stay in a better mood.
Work out while sitting down: I was provided a Cubii to review! Cubii is an elliptical machine that fits under your desk! This machine allows me to type this review right now and lose calories!
Here is what I love most about my Cubii:
It syncs with my smartphone. So if I can work out for two hours a day each day…then I have burned enough calories of food for a day! My goal right now is to use it for one mile a day.
It was so easy to set up! They even sent me a screwdriver to put the pedals on! I am not sure of any company that sends you a screwdriver to put their equipment together! This was worth it!
