If you’ve been following along on my Miracles From Heaven press junket journey, you know that I got the amazing opportunity to screen the movie and interview the people behind the scenes just a couple of weeks ago! If you haven’t, be sure to catch up with my full movie review, favorite movie quotes, and my interview with the cast!
While this movie was a definite “feel good” faith-based movie, it was so much more than that. The fact that it was inspired by a true story makes it that much more compelling. During the press junket, we had the opportunity to meet with a member of the real family that is portrayed in the film. Not only is Christy Beam the amazing and tenacious woman that is portrayed in the movie, she is also the author of the book Miracles from Heaven, that inspired this film to be brought to the screen.
We interviewed Christy Beam (played by Jennifer Garner) and Randy Brown (the movie writer) together and had plenty of questions for each. One question that I was eager to know was how much of the actual story had to be changed in order to transfer it into a movie. The answer from both Christy and Randy? Not much! One small thing that Christy mentioned was that while soccer plays a major role in her oldest daughters life in the movie, her oldest doesn’t play soccer at all! She is actually in love with theater! Randy explained that they wanted to portray how active the family is, and how each of the girls are interested in their own activities. While theater definitely keeps the family busy, soccer was something that was easier to portray via film.
During the interveiw Christy was asked what inspired her to share her daughter’s story. Her response:
“It started out I thought, cathratic. I thought it was for myself for healing. I thought it was because I needed that. So that’s how it all started. But that wasn’t the plan. The plan was way bigger, and it wasn’t even about me. It was so beyond me. And then, as it started to grow and catch on and the publishing company was involved I just realized that it had to be shared. It was something that I could keep to myself, it was something that I had to give to encourage and inspire others”.
It was such an honor meeting such amazingly coureagous and talented inviduals in real life. It’s also uncanny seeing the resemblance between Christy Beam and Jennifer Garner in real life! Seeming them both in the same setting, and how similar their mannerisms were! Details like these are just a few of the many that went into the process of making this such an amazing movie!
