I was invited to an all expense paid Press Trip to visit Pixar to learn about the upcoming movie. All opinions are my own.
When visiting Pixar a couple of months ago, I had the opportunity to sit down with the great minds that came up with this new Pixar film, Inside Out! I met with Pete Docter and Jonas Rivera in a round table discussion about the creation of the film. Both of these gentlemen spoke about the film as if it was one of their own children.
As a matter of fact as they were creating the film, it was Pete’s daughter who was the motivation behind it. When watching your own children grow up you see changes in them that are amazing and sometimes scary. It is almost like they really do have little voices of emotions inside of thier head and you aren’t sure which one is about to be “the driver” of the situation. Pete and Jonas talked about creating the film, easter eggs, and the study and research that went to creating this movie.
Creating the film:
- Learn about the male and female emotions and whether or not they were going to be male or female. Personifying feelings.
- Deciding to go for the genre of comedy.
- Deciding that the emotions ONLY know what Riley (the main character knows) at certain ages of development.
- During the first draft, one of there emotions was “logic” they later got rid of that one.
Easter Eggs:
When it comes to Easter Eggs, I like to look for them in Disney movies. I am not so good at finding them! I do know that when creating this film you should be on the look out for Figment, Tea Cups, Toy Story Ball, Truck, and a Dinosaur (future film).
Study and Research:
- Pete and Jonas met with a neurologist from the Research of Columbia.
- They also met with several do tors about the expression and emotions.
- Learned that each emotion has it’s own job!
Pixar folks, including Pete and Jonas have already screened this movie to their children! There is a surprise ending that I understand that everyone must see! Their kids had a chance to jump on the the early discussions during the creation of the film. They were amazed on how much their kids learned about determining which emotion was driving their current moods. They would often relate to the movie in casual conversation!
“Inside Out” opens in theaters on June 19, 2015!!
Your family will LOVE this movie! I can’t wait to take my 5 year old to see this movie! It is a GREAT way to teach kids about feelings and what happens in their mind. Watch the trailer below:
From an adventurous balloon ride above the clouds to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Up”) has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In Disney•Pixar’s original movie “ Inside Out,” he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all—inside the mind.
Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.
