Animation Dailies – Inside Out Event Press Day

I was invited to an all expense paid Press Trip to visit Pixar to learn about the upcoming movie.  All opinions are my own.

It was so much fun meeting with the professionals at Pixar about the creation of the new upcoming Pixar movie, Inside Out. We had several of the crew with us while we were in this small session. They actually had us in a little tiny theater room that fit about 20-40 people. It was about the size of a classroom. We talked about how each day they would hve “animation dailies” and they went through a mock session of what that is like. We met with Supervising Animators Shawn Kruase and Victor Navone. We also had Directing Animator, Jamie Roe and Story Artist, Tony Fucile were in the room.

What do animation dailies look like? While in the room having our mock dailies, we first watched a clip of the movie. We learned how first animation starts after layout. They talked about when they share ideas that the “best idea wins and a good idea can come from anywhere.” The director always gets the final say. There is a lot of problem solving happening in the movie. While creating the animation for each scent they get very “nit picky” all the way down to the pupil of the drawing. They explained that 20 shots meant 5-6 seconds of film and could take 4-5 weeks to create. Talk about the attention to detail!

“Inside Out” opens in theaters on June 19, 2015!!  

Your family will LOVE this movie! I can’t wait to take my 5 year old to see this movie!  It is a GREAT way to teach kids about feelings and what happens in their mind.  Watch the trailer below:

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.
