People Like Us Movie Review–>People Like Us is a Disney DreamWorks picture that is about family, priorities in life, and finding who you really are. Chris Pine plays a salesman who is living life on his own and with his career. He finds out he has a big sales deal that falls through and then his father passes away. He is forced to go home for his father’s funeral and hasn’t visited in a long time. He then finds out that he had a sister he never knew about, Frankie. Frankie is played by Elizabeth Banks.
The neat thing about this movie is how director, Alex Kurtzman, came up with the idea. Alex’s father had been married with two other kids and had separated and he started a whole new life. Alex had never met his other family. He had wondered: what if, when he was young he had actually met his half-brother or sister and never realized it? The same day he had that thought he had a total uncanny moment where he ran into his half sister at a party! Although the characters in the movie are nothing like his real life the idea generated from a real life experience!
I had the privilege to view this movie in a special screening with 24 other Mom bloggers in New York. The movie is funny and a tear jerker! Get the kleenex ready for this one!! The movie was so well written there were not any dry eyes in the theater. Kurtzman created the movie so that…”the more personal it becomes for the audience…” it would reach his goal.
After seeing this movie, I just wanted to go home and hug my family and you will want to as well! There are so many other touching moments in this movie that you won’t want to miss them. Frankie is dealing with the challenges of being a single mother. Sam is dealing with financial troubles and making decisions about his priorities in life!
Spoiler Alert:
There is a scene in the movie where Sam tells his nephew his dad’s rules he had in life about how to live. This is a real touching moment and shows one of Sam’s moments where he is passing information from one generation to another.
This movie comes out in a week! Be ready to see it on June 29th!!!
