5 Reasons to Visit Your Local Pirate Festival
Summer is coming and that means perfect beach weather! However, sand and swimming aren’t the only reasons to head to the beach this summer. Pirate festivals will be popping up along boardwalks all over the country. If you’re looking for your next fun family adventure, we’ve got a few reasons for you to experience a pirate festival.
Budget-Friendly. Typically a family outing can cost an arm and a leg, but pirate festivals are usually held on popular boardwalks which are open to the public. That means that many pirate festivals are free! Although some festivals do charge an admission fee, the prices are often quite reasonable and children are sometimes free as well.
Costume Fun. If your family loves dressing up on Halloween, you’ll all enjoy dressing up for a pirate festival! You can join in on the fun and really get into the whole experience when you’re dressed like a pirate. If you really want to get into character, you can practice your pirate lingo ahead of time! There are also costume contests for both adults and kids. Some will give you a cool gift just for dressing up which is something they do at the Long Island Pirate Festival.
Treasure Hunts. Most pirate festivals include a treasure hunt as an activity so if your kids love adventure, we’re sure that they’ll enjoy this! After all, how often can you say that you went on a treasure hunt with real pirates?
Pirate Entertainment. Do you enjoy the charm of an old pirate shanty? Or maybe you are amazed by sword fights. Perhaps you are delighted by dancers or acrobats? These are all things that are commonplace at your local pirate festival. The inclusive entertainment and the variety of the acts are just more reason to visit with your family.
History and Learning. Similar to Renaissance fairs, pirate festivals are a great place to learn about history. Seeing the way they dress and hearing the way they talk can give your kids insight to a completely different time period. In addition, many of the actors may interact with your kids by telling them interesting facts about pirates and the days they lived in.
