Follow me as I head to New York for one night to screen a movie that focusses on Mother Daughter Relationship between a rockstar mom and her girl.
A relationship between a daughter and a mother is something that is really important, lovely, and tough! It is true. As a mother, I am my daughter’s very first role model on how to act, how to behave, and what to look like. I asked some of you for your tips and this is the list that I came up with.
Love yourself and be powerful! Don’t be critical of your weight or appearance in front of them and never ridicule other women in front of them either.
Be their first teacher. Teach them to be empowered and to empower others.
About relationships. Always raise your daughter to believe in herself and that she should never need someone to get by in life. She is strong enough to maintain her own life and can do a “man’s” job if she really wants to. She should only want a partner not need them. She should know what she has to offer her partner and if she ever has to lower her standards than she needs to move on.
Respect her. Put your girl before you put yourself. Always share and always use your manners.
Tough Times. Always let your daughters know how much you love them. Don’t just tell them–show them. Remember quality time, gifts, and physical hugs and kisses!
If you are looking for a grown up movie to watch that focuses on mother/daughter relationships, be sure to check out Meryl Streep and Rick Springfield in “Ricki and the Flash”. This movie isn’t intended to take the little ones but definitely one that you will want to invite your mother or your girlfriends to go and see it with you. All of these Mother Daughter Relationship tips should be modeled at any age. You can always follow them and you can even follow these tips with your own mother!
About Ricki and the Flash
Meryl Streep takes on a whole new gig – a hard-rocking singer/guitarist – for Oscar®-winning director Jonathan Demme and Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody in Ricki and the Flash. In an original and electrifying film loaded with live musical performances, Streep stars as Ricki Rendazzo, a guitar heroine who made a world of mistakes as she followed her dreams of rock-and-roll stardom. Returning home, Ricki gets a shot at redemption and a chance to make things right as she faces the music with her family. Streep stars opposite her real-life daughter Mamie Gummer; Rick Springfield, portraying a Flash member in love with Ricki; Kevin Kline as Ricki’s ex-husband; and Audra McDonald as Kline’s new wife.

Those are great tips, even if you don’t have girls and only have boys. I love my Mom and have so much respect for her.

I saw the movie previews and thought that would be a fun movie to watch with my teen. Since Meryl is in the movie, I can’t go wrong, right?!

Great tips – as a boy mom, I find many of these to be true as well.
